The Unit Secretary performs all clerical functions and facilitates effective communication with inter/intradepartmental personnel to maintain an efficient, cost effective and organized nursing station. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide support services to patients with acute care needs. Performs clerical, receptionist duties and assists in daily operations of the unit under the guidance of the Lead Nurse.

GENERAL DUTIES
Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others:
- Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently and legally.
- Transcribes orders, initiates, assembles and maintains charts.
- Performs receptionist and clerical duties.
- Answers call lights, responds professionally to questions, and finds appropriate assistance for patients as needed.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to ensure orderly operation of the unit and improve patient care.
- Demonstrates care and concern for customers by striving to meet their expectations.
- Follows HIPAA guidelines.
- Seeks supervision or assistance when unable to perform effectively or independently.
- Uses interpersonal communication strategies with individuals that are intended to achieve desirable, acceptable outcomes/responses and perceptions of satisfaction by those involved.
- Enters supply rooms on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions.
- Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.
Contributes to continuity of patient care:
- Complies with established hospital, departmental and personnel policies.
- Maintains documentation consistent with established guidelines.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- Preferred: Experience as a Receptionist, Secretary or Unit Clerk in a healthcare setting.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI, NCI-CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute (NOEH employees must receive within 90 days)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Appropriate communication and interpersonal skills.
- Courteous telephone skills, basic computer skills, satisfactory written and verbal communication.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- EPIC experience, Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook and Excel).
