We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly accountable  Field & Material Operations Director  to lead and oversee our warehouse, materials, inventory, and field-support operations across our  DFW and Houston markets .

This is a high-level operational leadership position responsible for the overall health and performance of the materials and warehouse function. The Director will serve as the  complete operational owner of the facilities , providing leadership across people, processes, inventory, purchasing, logistics, technology, and vendor relationships.

The ideal candidate is a strong operator who can move between  high-level strategy and day-to-day execution . This individual will establish standards, build accountability, identify operational gaps, develop leaders, and create scalable processes that support continued company growth.

The Field & Material Operations Director will work closely with  Regional Installation Directors, Procurement, Project Management, Field Operations, and Warehouse leadership  to ensure materials are available, organized, accurately tracked, and delivered to job sites on time.

Key Responsibilities

Facility & Operational Leadership

- Assume overall ownership and accountability for warehouse and material operations across DFW and Houston.
- Oversee daily facility operations, ensuring all locations operate safely, efficiently, and consistently.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for receiving, unloading, inventory storage, picking, staging, loading, and job-site deliveries.
- Develop operational standards that can be replicated across multiple facilities as the company continues to grow.
- Monitor daily execution and quickly identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, delays, and recurring issues.
- Establish clear expectations for facility cleanliness, organization, safety, productivity, and operational readiness.
- Ensure warehouses are consistently prepared to support current and upcoming installation schedules.

Leadership, Team Development & Accountability

- Lead, coach, and develop Warehouse Leads, Warehouse Associates, and other materials personnel.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability standards for facility teams.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development.
- Build a strong culture of ownership, urgency, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with leadership on staffing models, headcount planning, recruiting needs, scheduling, and organizational development.
- Identify high-potential employees and develop future warehouse and operations leaders.
- Address performance issues promptly and consistently while maintaining a professional and productive work environment.

Inventory Management & Material Health

- Own the overall health, accuracy, availability, and organization of inventory across all facilities.
- Oversee inventory of solar modules, inverters, racking, batteries, electrical equipment, HVAC-related materials, tools, and other installation supplies.
- Establish inventory control standards and ensure accurate cycle counts, audits, transfers, adjustments, and reconciliation.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify excess, aging, damaged, missing, or slow-moving materials.
- Develop strategies to minimize shrinkage, material loss, damage, and unnecessary inventory carrying costs.
- Ensure materials are properly allocated to projects and available according to installation schedules.
- Establish clear processes for material transfers between DFW and Houston and ensure inventory movement is accurately documented.

Purchasing & Supply Chain Leadership

- Establish purchasing priorities based on installation schedules, inventory levels, lead times, and operational requirements.
- Partner closely with Procurement and the  Virtual Warehouse Coordinator  to ensure purchase orders are accurately created, tracked, received, and closed.
- Monitor material availability and proactively identify potential shortages or supply-chain risks.
- Review purchasing trends and collaborate with leadership to improve purchasing efficiency and cost control.
- Maintain visibility into upcoming material requirements and communicate potential constraints before they impact field operations.
- Develop strong relationships with key suppliers, distributors, and material partners.

Multi-Site Operations & Standardization

- Own department-wide operational standards across DFW and Houston.
- Ensure both locations follow consistent processes, systems, and performance expectations.
- Develop and implement standardized workflows for inventory control, receiving, staging, picking, transfers, and logistics.
- Regularly evaluate differences between facilities and implement best practices across locations.
- Lead cross-location initiatives designed to improve efficiency, accountability, and scalability.
- Serve as the escalation point for significant warehouse, material, inventory, or logistics issues.

Logistics & Field Support

- Ensure materials are staged accurately and on schedule for upcoming installation projects.
- Establish efficient late-day staging and next-day delivery processes.
- Coordinate with Field Operations and Installation leadership to ensure job-site material requirements are met.
- Identify recurring delivery, staging, or material issues and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor the flow of materials from purchasing and receiving through warehouse storage, staging, delivery, and final job-site use.
- Improve communication between warehouse teams and field leadership to reduce delays and prevent material-related installation issues.

Technology, Systems & Process Improvement

- Oversee the effective use of inventory and material-management platforms, including  Solrite and other applicable ERP or operational systems .
- Ensure warehouse teams consistently and accurately document inventory movements, purchase orders, transfers, receipts, and material allocations.
- Identify opportunities to automate or improve manual processes.
- Use operational data and reporting to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Establish reporting standards and dashboards that provide leadership with visibility into inventory and operational performance.
- Continuously evaluate workflows and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and scalability.

Vendor & Distributor Management

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with material suppliers, distributors, logistics providers, and other strategic partners.
- Partner with Procurement and senior leadership to address pricing, availability, quality, delivery, and service issues.
- Hold vendors accountable to agreed-upon expectations and service levels.
- Support negotiations and vendor evaluations when appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve supplier performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Cross-Functional Leadership

- Work closely with Regional Installation Directors, Procurement, Project Managers, Field Operations, Finance, and senior leadership.
- Ensure material planning is aligned with project schedules and operational priorities.
- Provide leadership with visibility into inventory health, purchasing requirements, operational risks, and facility performance.
- Proactively communicate issues that may affect installation schedules, project timelines, or customer commitments.
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts when material or operational issues impact multiple departments.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

- Bachelor's degree  in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Equivalent relevant leadership experience may be considered depending on the candidate's background and demonstrated operational expertise.

Required Experience & Skills

- 5+ years of progressive experience  in warehouse management, logistics, materials management, supply chain, or operations leadership.
- Previous experience managing multi-site operations or multiple departments is strongly preferred.
- Experience in  solar, electrical, construction, HVAC, manufacturing, or another technical trade environment  is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing direct reports, including Warehouse Leads, Supervisors, Associates, or similar operational teams.
- Demonstrated ability to establish accountability, develop employees, and manage performance.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, purchasing processes, logistics, and warehouse operations.
- Hands-on experience with ERP, inventory-management, warehouse-management, or material-management systems.
- Experience with purchase orders, receiving, inventory transfers, cycle counts, reconciliation, and material allocation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational data and make informed decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and implement measurable process improvements.
- Strong vendor and supplier management experience.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growing organization.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to travel between  DFW and Houston facilities  as needed.
