Amazon Web Services is looking for a Senior Solutions Architect to accelerate our Health & Human Services Public Health vertical business within the State & Local Government (SLG) practice, part of the World Wide Public Sector (WWPS).

SLG vertical Solutions Architects (SAs) are technologists with deep domain-specific expertise, able to address advanced concepts and feature designs. As part of the AWS sales organization, SAs work with customers who have complex challenges that require expert-level knowledge to solve. SAs craft scalable, flexible, and resilient technical architectures that address those challenges. In Health & Human Services and Public Health, this might involve designing an interoperable data platform for population health, or standing up secure, compliant cloud environments for disease surveillance and emergency response.

Vertical SAs play a critical role in capturing customer feedback, advocating for roadmap enhancements, and anticipating customer requirements as they work backwards from their needs. As domain experts, vertical SAs also participate in field engagement and enablement, producing content such as whitepapers, blogs, and workshops for customers, partners, and the AWS Technical Field.

Health & Human Services / Public Health Specialist Solutions Architects combine technical depth, public health and human services domain knowledge, business acumen, and technical sales skills. They are focused on supporting customers throughout the engagement lifecycle and work closely with the teams that support implementation, including AWS Sellers, Professional Services, and Partners. In this role, you will define technical business strategy in close partnership with our Public Health Business Development Manager (BDM), translating mission priorities — improving health outcomes, expanding access to services, and strengthening program integrity — into scalable go-to-market motions. SAs unblock customers and help them get to production faster. As a Solutions Architect on the Health & Human Services / Public Health team, you will have the opportunity to work across the breadth of AWS — including data and analytics, GenAI (AWS Bedrock, AWS Kiro, AWS SageMaker), and secure, compliant infrastructure — to develop architectures, proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and demos that help agencies improve population health. Your work will have a direct impact on constituent outcomes, AWS revenue in the HHS/Public Health segment, and the evolution of our services and product roadmaps via market and customer signals.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the following:

Helping public health and human services agencies design cloud architectures that improve outcomes for constituents.
Defining technical business strategy in partnership with a Business Development Manager to turn mission priorities into scalable go-to-market motions.
Deep-dive technical discussions around design, with the intellectual curiosity to keep skills current while maintaining a pulse on the HHS/Public Health and cloud industry landscape.
With experience in the following key areas:

Technical presentation experience — whiteboard, small and large group presentations to technical and executive audiences.
Technical — data platforms, analytics/ML, GenAI, and cloud architecture, ideally applied to health or human services domains.
Operational — security and compliance for regulated workloads (NIST, HIPAA, FedRAMP, GovRAMP).
Ability to travel as needed to support customer engagements and industry events.

Key job responsibilities
- Serve as the trusted technical advisor and domain expert on Health & Human Services and Public Health solutions for strategic State & Local Government agencies (public health departments, Medicaid and human services agencies, and health-focused GovTech/EdTech customers).
- Define and drive technical business strategy for the Public Health segment in close partnership with the Public Health Business Development Manager (BDM), aligning solution direction with mission outcomes and revenue goals.
- Lead architecture design sessions, technical deep-dives, and proof-of-concept engagements for complex opportunities such as interoperability (HL7/FHIR), population health analytics, disease surveillance, benefits and eligibility modernization, and program integrity.
- Provide expert-level guidance on data platforms, analytics and machine learning, GenAI use cases, and secure, compliant architectures that meet public sector requirements (HIPAA, FedRAMP, GovRAMP, and data-sovereignty needs).
- Partner with account teams on strategic account planning, contributing HHS/Public Health domain expertise to accelerate the sales cycle and improve solution accuracy.
- Present at AWS Summits, re:Invent, and industry conferences (e.g., APHL, CSTE) on topics relevant to public health and human services customers.
- Create and publish external-facing content (blogs, whitepapers, demos, workshops, GitHub repos) showcasing HHS/Public Health best practices on AWS.
- Obtain SA Associate certification within 6 months and SA Pro certification within 18 months (role requirements).

A day in the life
You partner with the Public Health BDM to shape the technical strategy for a priority state agency — translating a public health mission into an AWS architecture and a repeatable go-to-market play. Your days blend deep technical work (designing reference architectures for interoperable health data, building a GenAI proof-of-concept for constituent services, navigating HIPAA and FedRAMP compliance) with strategic influence: guiding account teams on solution strategy, mentoring field SAs, and briefing agency technical and executive stakeholders. You develop enablement assets and thought-leadership content that raise the bar across the specialist community, and you carry the voice of the HHS/Public Health customer back to AWS service teams to influence the roadmap.

Basic Qualifications

- 8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
- 5+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
- Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

- Cloud Technology Certification (such as Solutions Architecture, Cloud Security Professional or Cloud DevOps Engineering)
- Knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
- Experience working with end user or developer communities
- Knowledge of cloud architecture
- Experience in Health & Human Services, Public Health, or healthcare domains (e.g., Electronic Disease Surveillance, population health, immunization registry, health data interoperability with HL7/FHIR)
- Knowledge of public sector compliance and security frameworks (NIST, HIPAA, FedRAMP, GovRAMP)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
