As a Lead Field Service Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of GE’s advanced drive architectures. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, leading onsite projects and providing expert-level troubleshooting for complex drive and control systems. This role bridges the gap between field operations and engineering, ensuring our customers maximize the reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle value of their GE power conversion equipment.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Commissioning & Startup: Lead the end-to-end commissioning of advanced drive systems and power electronics, ensuring seamless integration with shipboard power management and propulsion systems.
- Power Electronics Diagnostics: Perform deep-dive troubleshooting on MV/LV drive systems, rectifiers, and inverters. Utilize oscilloscopes and diagnostic software to analyze firing pulses, gate signals, and control logic.
- System Integration: Validate communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Modbus, IEC 61850) and control loop tuning (speed/torque/current) within complex multi-drive architectures.
- Complex Troubleshooting: Perform diagnostic investigations at site locations, during scheduled port visits, or at sea. Resolve persistent technical challenges through expert-level troubleshooting and evidence-based corrective action.
- Technical Advisory: Partner with naval and commercial customers to provide training on system operations, optimization, and preventative maintenance strategies to extend asset life.
- Service Growth: Identify and promote opportunities for service, spare parts, and system upgrades (CM&U) to support long-term vessel performance.
- Engineering Compliance: Execute all tasks in accordance with defined departmental policies, GEV safety guidelines, and maritime regulatory standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, or Naval standards).
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate service records, technical reports, and diagnostic logs to meet both GEV and customer quality standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to maritime safety protocols, naval security regulations, and environmental health and safety (EHS) standards while working in confined shipboard environments
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited university with a minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning environments involving LV/MV drive and control systems.. OR Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant commissioning experience.
- OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of relevant commissioning experience.
- Security Clearance: US Person with the ability to achieve and maintain security clearance for Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
- Operational Readiness: Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time, often on short notice.
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit to board vessels offshore. Must be able to pass Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET).

- Technical Experience:
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serves as the primary technical authority and final point of escalation for complex drive system failures, bridging the gap between field operations and design engineering to lead high-stakes troubleshooting, establish global commissioning standards, and drive systemic improvements in equipment reliability and performance
- Technical Toolset: Proficiency in the setup and operation of industry-standard test equipment, including: Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO)
- 5kV/10kV Megohmmeter
- Micro-Ohmmeter (Ductor)
- Power Quality Analyzer
- Multimeters (True-RMS)
- Strong technical aptitude in utilizing MS Office and relevant diagnostic software.
- Proven ability to prioritize work efforts independently across weekly, monthly and quarterly horizons.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with internal engineering teams and external customer stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to high personal and professional ethics in a demanding construction-type work environment.
- Whilst performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips and falls. The noise level on-site or on-board ships can be excessive, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $78,800.00 and $131,200.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
