Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Building Code Compliance Specialist to review and evaluate the code compliance of foam plastic insulation, Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation systems, thermal barriers, and fire-resistant coating applications.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) thermal barrier requirements, NFPA 275 acceptance criteria, and applicable requirements under IBC Sections 2603.4 and 2603.4.1.14. This position will be responsible for reviewing technical documentation, laboratory test reports, ICC-ES Evaluation Reports, product certifications, and other materials used to verify compliance with building and fire safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Review building code compliance documentation for foam plastic insulation and SPF insulation systems.
• Evaluate thermal barrier and fire-resistant coating applications for compliance with applicable IBC requirements.
• Interpret and apply the 2024 IBC provisions related to foam plastic insulation, including Sections 2603.4 and 2603.4.1.14.
• Review and interpret NFPA 275 test results and acceptance criteria.
• Examine laboratory test reports, ICC-ES Evaluation Reports, product certifications, manufacturer documentation, and related compliance materials.
• Assess whether proposed insulation and coating systems meet applicable thermal barrier and fire-resistance requirements.
• Conduct or support building code compliance inspections involving SPF insulation, thermal barriers, and fire-resistant coatings.
• Review construction and inspection documentation for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Identify deficiencies, discrepancies, and potential code compliance issues.
• Prepare clear technical findings, inspection reports, review comments, and recommendations.
• Communate code requirements and technical findings to contractors, manufacturers, inspectors, engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders.
• Maintain organized records of technical reviews, testing documentation, certifications, and inspection results.
• Exercise sound professional judgment when evaluating complex or incomplete compliance information.
• Stay current with applicable building codes, fire protection standards, testing methods, and industry practices.
Required Qualifications
• Thorough understanding of the 2024 IBC thermal barrier requirements for foam plastic insulation.
• Knowledge of NFPA 275 acceptance criteria and related laboratory testing requirements.
• Ability to interpret ICC-ES Evaluation Reports and other product evaluation documents.
• Experience reviewing laboratory test reports, product certifications, manufacturer documentation, and code compliance records.
• Working knowledge of SPF insulation systems and fire-resistant or thermal barrier coating applications.
• Knowledge of IBC Sections 2603.4 and 2603.4.1.14.
• Experience with building code compliance inspections, construction inspections, or related building inspection projects.
• Ability to interpret technical codes, standards, test reports, and engineering documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation review skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to make professional, well-supported compliance determinations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in Engineering, Construction, Building Sciences, Fire Protection, Architecture, or a related technical field.
• Experience evaluating fire-resistant coatings and thermal barrier systems.
• Experience with SPF insulation installation, inspection, or compliance review.
• Experience with laboratory testing methods and fire-performance documentation.
• Building inspection, code compliance, fire protection, or related professional certifications.
• Experience working with electronic code compliance or document management systems.
• Prior experience in construction, architecture, engineering, fire protection, or regulatory review environments.
