Overview:

Performs a variety of skilled work below the journeyman level, including mixing mortar, by operating a motorized mortar mixer, for use by the bricklayers; erects and dismantles scaffolding for bricklaying jobs; places walkways and boards on scaffolding; Maintains stock of bricks and blocks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of skilled work below the journeyman level, including mixing mortar, by operating a motorized mortar mixer, for use by the bricklayers.
- Erects and dismantles scaffolding for bricklaying jobs; places walkways and boards on scaffolding.
- Maintains stock of bricks and blocks for use by the bricklayers.
- Assist in removing marble, caulking and variety of masonry material.
- May perform a variety of semiskilled tasks such as cleaning, greasing, painting and making minor repairs to machinery, gears and other appurtenances.
- May supervise a small group of seasonal laborers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:

Requires successful completion of a union sponsored apprenticeship training program to qualify as a journeyman laborer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Requires extensive knowledge of preparation of mortar mixes and operation of mortar mixing equipment.
- Requires working knowledge of construction and maintenance materials.
- Requires working knowledge of one or more of the mechanical and building trades.
- Requires skill in the use of tools and ability to perform semi-skilled manual work.
- Requires ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Requires ability to lift/carry over 90 pounds.
- Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
