About the team and the role:

At eBay, we connect millions of buyers and sellers around the world. The Cloud Engineering organization build platforms that keep those experiences fast, reliable, secure, and ready to scale.

We are hiring an AI-first Senior Manager, Cloud Traffic Engineering, to lead traffic engineering across eBay’s global cloud platform. This leader will shape the strategy, architecture, and operating model for critical traffic systems, including our public-facing edge load-balancer platform and Tess Cloud Networking, with responsibility for both north-south and east-west traffic optimization.

In this role, you will lead a team that owns the systems moving traffic safely and efficiently across eBay’s cloud environment. You will partner closely with Cloud Infrastructure, SRE, Security, Developer Platform, application engineering, and product leaders to improve resilience, performance, developer velocity, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale.

This is a highly visible leadership role with broad multi-functional influence, responsibility for platform health and execution, and the opportunity to build an AI-enabled organization that advances automation and accelerates the path toward NoOps across globally distributed teams.

What you will accomplish:

- Define and lead the strategy for eBay’s cloud traffic engineering platforms, evolving edge traffic management, load balancing, service mesh, and traffic policy to improve reliability, scalability, and operational clarity across regions.
- Improve the performance and resilience of both north-south and east-west traffic flows across ingress, egress, routing, service-to-service communication, cluster networking, and multi-region dependencies, especially during major business events.
- Build an AI-first traffic engineering organization by applying AI and automation to telemetry analysis, anomaly detection, capacity forecasting, change risk assessment, incident response, configuration generation, and operational workflows.
- Reduce manual operational effort and advance the platform toward NoOps by introducing intelligent systems and automation that measurably improve deployment safety, flow efficiency, engineering productivity, and recovery outcomes such as MTTR and reliability.
- Establish strong engineering standards and operating mechanisms for availability, performance, resilience, security, observability, service ownership, on-call readiness, documentation, and safe production change across teams in the US, Dublin, and Bengaluru.
- Develop senior engineering talent and represent Cloud Traffic Engineering in multi-functional and executive forums, translating complex infrastructure tradeoffs into clear technical direction, business impact, and durable platform outcomes.

What you will bring:

- Experience leading cloud traffic engineering, network platform, service mesh, edge, load balancing, SRE, or related infrastructure teams supporting large-scale, multi-region production environments.

- Experience managing senior engineers and technical leaders while remaining credible in architecture discussions, production decision-making, and long-range platform planning.

- Strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud networking, service-to-service communication, routing, load balancing, resiliency, and observability in high-availability environments.

- A proven AI-first approach to engineering, with practical experience using AI and automation to improve system build, operations, fixing issues, incident response, or platform efficiency in meaningful ways.

- Excellent judgment in balancing reliability, security, performance, developer experience, delivery speed, and cost, along with experience building effective operating mechanisms for service ownership, incident management, process improvements, and managing resource needs.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries and engage effectively with global teams; a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$156,800 - $255,300

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
