Application Engineer

Application Engineer Job Description We are seeking an Applications Engineer to support the development of custom automation and engineered solutions for customers across a variety of industries. This role serves as the technical bridge between customers, sales, and engineering teams, helping define project scope, develop machine concepts, prepare proposals, and support projects from concept through implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong expereince in machine design and industrial automation, combined with experience supporting customers and business development activities. Responsibilities

- Collaborate with customers to understand application requirements and develop engineered solutions.
- Develop machine concepts, layouts, and equipment designs based on customer specifications.
- Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models, renderings, and conceptual designs for custom equipment.
- Evaluate project requirements and assist in developing technical proposals and cost estimates.
- Research and select components including motors, bearings, pneumatics, sensors, drive systems, and other automation equipment.
- Create and maintain bills of material, fabrication drawings, and supporting technical documentation.
- Support technical sales efforts through customer meetings, presentations, and proposal reviews.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Assist with project startup, troubleshooting, and customer support activities as needed.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years of machine design experience using SolidWorks.
- Minimum of 2 years of sales, applications engineering, account management, business development, or customer-facing experience.
- Experience designing automated equipment, machinery, tooling, or industrial systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, and assembly practices.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact directly with customers.
- Experience working in industrial automation, material handling, special machines, or custom equipment environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems, motion control, robotics, sensors, and industrial automation components.
- Experience developing proposals, quotations, and project estimates.
- Project management or project coordination experience in fixture, tooling, or custom machinery design.
- Ability to travel occasionally for customer visits and project support.

Work Environment This role operates within a collaborative office and engineering environment while maintaining regular interaction with customers, manufacturing personnel, and project teams. Employees will support a variety of custom engineering and automation projects, balancing technical design responsibilities with customer-facing activities. Occasional travel may be required for customer meetings, site visits, and project support.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $53.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
