About the Role:

As a Medical Assistant in Radiation Oncology at Quincy Medical Group, you will work closely with the Radiation Oncologist, RN, and multidisciplinary oncology team to support patients throughout their cancer care. You will provide hands-on clinical support, coordinate appointments and testing, communicate patient needs, and help patients and families navigate their care.

This position works in partnership with the department RN, taking ownership of responsibilities that fall within the MA/CMA/RMA scope of practice. It is a great fit for a Medical Assistant who is compassionate, organized, and comfortable supporting patients who may have complex medical and psychosocial needs.

Schedule & Work Environment

- Full-time, Monday-Friday, Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 3:30pm, Friday 7:00am - 12:00pm or finish.
- Outpatient Radiation Oncology environment with close collaboration among physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and other members of the oncology care team.

Primary Responsibilities

- Room and prepare patients for Radiation Oncology appointments, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, weight, medications, allergies, and medical history.
- Gather information regarding patients' physical and psychosocial needs and communicate relevant concerns to the RN, physician, or appropriate member of the care team.
- Assist the physician with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments within the MA/CMA/RMA scope of practice.
- Recognize and report treatment-related symptoms, side effects, or other concerning findings to the Radiation Oncologist or RN.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, imaging, laboratory work, referrals, follow-up visits, and other appointments as directed.
- Help patients navigate their care and identify additional needs such as transportation assistance, nutritional counseling, or psychosocial support.
- Provide educational materials and communicate physician or nursing instructions to patients and families as appropriate.
- Accurately document patient interactions, interventions, responses, and other relevant information in the electronic medical record.
- Work closely with the RN and other members of the Radiation Oncology team to coordinate care and ensure patient needs are addressed efficiently.
- Maintain infection prevention, safety, confidentiality, and regulatory standards throughout patient care.
- Contribute to a positive patient experience and collaborative team environment.
- Perform other duties within the MA/CMA/RMA scope of practice as assigned.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant education or previous clinical experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Previous oncology, specialty clinic, or ambulatory healthcare experience preferred but not required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate support to patients and families.
- Strong organization and attention to detail with the ability to coordinate multiple appointments, testing needs, and follow-up activities.
- Ability to recognize changes or concerns in a patient's condition and promptly communicate them to the RN or physician.
- Comfort working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary clinical team while understanding and maintaining the boundaries of the MA/CMA/RMA scope of practice.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.12 - $24.18 per hour , with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through bonuses and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
