Key job responsibilities
Assemble comprehensive production kits containing all raw materials, custom workholding, cutting tools, gauges, and documentation required for specific CNC work orders.

Review Bill of Materials (BOM), blueprints, and digital CAD/CAM setup sheets to ensure perfect component matching before jobs hit the floor.

Stage completed kits at designated machining cells to ensure operators can transition seamlessly between production runs without material-related delays.

Process job teardowns by receiving used kits, logging returned components into the ERP/CMMS system, and returning modular tooling to stock.

Preset and pre-assemble cutting tools (end mills, drills, inserts) into specific tool holders using precision tool presetter machinery.

Measure and record tool offsets (length and diameter dimensions) and update the shop's central tooling database or generate RFID data tags.

Inspect, clean, and maintain specialized fixtures, molds, die components, and workholding equipment (vises, chucks, custom clamps).

Manage tool wear tracking, identifying when tooling needs replacement, regrinding, or recycling.

Track stock levels of standard raw material blanks, modular hardware, fasteners, inserts, and shop consumables.

Initiate purchase requisitions for replacement tooling and components to prevent stockout bottlenecks.

Audit and organize the tool crib and kitting zones using strict 5S lean manufacturing methodologies.

A day in the life
The Machine Shop Kitting Specialist optimizes production efficiency by managing the flow of cutting tools, fixtures, raw materials, and precision documentation to the shop floor. This role bridges the gap between engineering, the warehouse, and CNC machinists by building complete production kits. By assembling all required tooling, raw material blanks, and setup sheets prior to a production run, this specialist reduces machine downtime.

The Amazon Leo machine shop provides development fabrication capabilities as well as production machining. These operations occur in our Redmond facilities.

Basic Qualifications

- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement principles & techniques
- Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
- 2+ years of experience in a CNC machine shop, tool crib, or manufacturing kitting environment
- Working knowledge of cutting tools, tool holders, workholding fixtures, and CNC machining processes
- Hands-on experience with ERP, CMMS, or inventory management systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and CAD/CAM setup sheets
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks)

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, Machining, or a related discipline
- Experience operating precision tool presetters (e.g., Zoller, Haimer, Parlec)
- Familiarity with RFID-based tooling management systems
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM) sufficient to interpret toolpath documentation
- Background in aerospace, defense, or other high-precision manufacturing environments with tight tolerance requirements
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt) or equivalent continuous improvement methodology
- Demonstrated track record of reducing machine downtime through proactive kitting and tooling management

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
