  Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. ##### Your impact

As a Cost Controller, you'll track and manage costs across asset maintenance activities, helping maintain budget compliance, accurate cost allocation and clear financial reporting. You'll work with operational stakeholders to provide cost insights, strengthen budget ownership and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.

##### As part of our team, you will

- Manage committed, incurred and forecast costs across assigned departments, including monitoring expenditure against budgets and completing detailed variance analysis.
- Prepare monthly operating expenditure and capital expenditure accruals, cost allocations and financial reports, including cost reporting for operational stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate cost records and reporting dashboards, including purchase orders, contractor claims, timesheets and vendor invoices.
- Partner with superintendents, procurement, contractors and other stakeholders to resolve cost issues and strengthen understanding and ownership of budgets.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost control processes and reporting efficiency while maintaining transparent records for audit and compliance requirements

##### Prerequisites for your success in this role

- A Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Accounting or related tertiary qualification; a Diploma in Accounting is also acceptable.
- CPA or progressing towards CPA
- Considerable experience in cost control, accounting, financial reporting or project controls.
- Strong proficiency in SAP (S/4HANA), Power BI and Smartsheet reporting tools, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication skills for working with suppliers, contractors and department managers, with the ability to work independently, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy under pressure.

##### Your work environment

This role is offered on a 28:14 Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea.
Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, with ensuite, air-conditioned accommodation equipped with Wi-Fi, television and a mini fridge. A variety of nutritious meal options are available through on-site catering facilities, while recreational and social amenities provide opportunities to relax and connect with colleagues while on roster.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams supporting one of the world's largest gold mining operations, contributing to safe, reliable and sustainable performance in a technically complex and globally significant mining environment.

You'll be part of a team of six cost controllers supporting 15 departments, with responsibility for an assigned operational area and regular collaboration with superintendents on expenditure against budget and end-of-month reporting.
