Laboratory Technician - Geotechnical Core Logging

Job Description

As a Laboratory Technician within our Core Logging team, you will support the processing, testing and logging of soil and rock samples from projects around the world. Working within a quality-driven laboratory environment, you will perform specialist testing, maintain laboratory equipment, process technical data and contribute to the delivery of high-quality geotechnical information for our clients.

You will work closely with engineers, project teams and laboratory specialists to ensure samples are processed accurately and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and technical excellence.

- Perform thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity testing on soil and rock samples.

- Process, prepare and assist with the testing and logging of soil and rock samples to industry standards.

- Enter, analyse and verify test data using spreadsheets and specialist software.

- Calculate and validate laboratory test results, ensuring accuracy and quality throughout.

- Carry out routine equipment checks, maintenance and calibration activities.

- Maintain equipment inventories, calibration records and laboratory documentation.

- Support continuous improvement, safe working practices and quality standards within the laboratory.

- Assist with the training and development of other team members when required

What You’ll Need to Thrive in This Role:

·       A minimum of  a GCSE Qualification in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

·       A keen interest in geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing and geological data.

·       Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.

·       Good numerical, analytical and data management skills.

·       Ability to follow technical procedures and work to established standards.

·       Strong teamwork and communication skills.

·       A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.

·       Previous laboratory, geological or geotechnical experience would be advantageous
