The Okta Identity Governance Team

Okta Identity Governance (OIG) is Okta's Identity Governance and Administration solution, responsible for some of the most critical and visible workflows in enterprise identity: how people request access, how approvers grant it, how entitlements are enforced, and how organizations prove to auditors that only the right people have the right access.

OIG is the leading contributor to Okta's new product bookings, and it runs inside some of the largest enterprises in the world — the kind of accounts where a single tenant carries hundreds of thousands of identities across thousands of applications.

Quality here is a compliance bar, not just a user experience one. When a governance product has a defect, a company can stay over-provisioned on access it believes it revoked, or hand an auditor evidence that isn't true.

The Senior Engineering Manager, SDET Opportunity

As Senior Engineering Manager, SDET, you'll own the quality strategy for OIG and lead the quality engineers and SDETs behind it — 10 scrum teams, with engineers in Canada, the US, and India. You'll set how we test governance at enterprise scale — long-running certification campaigns, tenants with millions of entitlements, dozens of third-party connectors, and audit records that must be provably correct.

You'll run multiple workstreams at once, delegate tactical decisions while staying close enough to dive in, and hold a quality position with engineering and product peers as a partner rather than a gatekeeper.

What You'll Be Doing

- Own the quality strategy for OIG — test approach, coverage model, automation architecture, environments, and release readiness — aligned to the pillar's goals

- Lead, grow, and retain a distributed team of quality engineers and SDETs; own team calibration and promotion planning, and drive recruiting as hiring manager

- Coach engineers on growth with timely, actionable feedback, and delegate without creating bottlenecks or hero culture

- Drive automation strategy across API, integration, and UI layers, converting manual regression into deterministic CI/CD gates

- Own the quality signal — escaped defects, coverage, flaky rate, time-to-detect — and use it to drive release decisions

- Lead scale and data-integrity testing for large-tenant campaigns, bulk entitlement operations, and high-volume imports

- Embed quality engineers into architecture and design reviews so testability and risk analysis shape the product early

- Track your team's investment mix, manage expectations across workstreams, and keep the team healthy and out of burnout

- Partner with engineering, product, design, docs, and support; turn escaped defects and RCAs into durable automated coverage

What You'll Bring To The Role

- 10+ years in quality or test engineering, or software engineering with a quality focus, shipping enterprise cloud software

- 4+ years managing engineers, including distributed teams and more than one workstream at a time

- A track record of owning quality strategy for a product area, not just executing test plans

- Hands-on depth in test automation at scale: Java, Python, or TypeScript, plus API (REST, gRPC) and UI automation (Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent)

- Experience with CI/CD (CircleCI or equivalent), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and a major cloud platform

- Experience testing multi-tenant SaaS, including asynchronous, event-driven systems and data reconciliation between systems

- Comfort making trade-off and risk calls against real constraints, and communicating them clearly

- A record of growing people, including promotions you've built the case for

- Experience recruiting, mentoring, and retaining engineers

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!

- Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) — access requests, certifications, entitlement management, separation of duties, or role modeling (Okta, SailPoint, Saviynt, One Identity, Oracle, or in-house)

- Identity and Access Management more broadly: SSO, SCIM provisioning, directory integration, or privileged access

- Testing in a compliance context — SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP — including audit evidence validation

- Performance, scale, or resilience engineering for data-heavy enterprise workloads

- Managing managers or tech leads

Below is the annual salary range for candidates located in Canada. Your actual salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, RRSP with a match, healthcare spending, telemedicine, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in Canada is between: $176,000 — $242,000 CAD
