Team / division overview

The Chief Technology Office (CTO) within the DWS COO division is responsible for shaping and delivering  the firm's technology strategy, transformation agenda and innovation priorities. Working across business and technology functions, the CTO Office enables the delivery of scalable, secure and efficient technology solutions that support DWS's strategic objectives, operational effectiveness and long-term growth.

The Solution & Data Architecture team shape the architecture standards, patterns, and guidance that enable delivery teams to build scalable, secure, and future-ready solutions. They work closely with Domain Architects, Security specialists, Data SMEs, platform teams, and delivery squads to ensure that solutions are aligned with DWS strategy, architecture principles, and policy requirements.

The team supports delivery from early requirements shaping through to solution design, design governance, and implementation support. This includes defining data ingestion, transformation, and consumption approaches, designing application and service architectures, and contributing reusable patterns, decision trees, and architecture decision records.  The team also explores emerging technologies and develop practical guidance to continuously improve the DWS technology landscape.

Your responsibilities

As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible for:

- Translate functional and non-functional requirements into solution designs, building blocks, services, data pipelines, integrations, and user-facing components.
- Own and drive end-to-end solution design, ensuring alignment with DWS architecture principles, technology strategy, security requirements, and design governance.
- Work closely with data architects to define effective approaches for data ingestion, transformation, management, and consumption.
- Guide and coach engineering teams during implementation to ensure designs are understood, practical, and delivered as intended.
- Collaborate with Domain Architects and fellow Solution and Data Architects to create architecture decision records, reusable patterns, and practical guidance for recurring design challenges.
- Support delivery teams in presenting and defending solution designs through relevant architecture and design authorities.
- Evaluate, prototype, and assess new technologies, deriving practical usage patterns that help modernize and continuously improve the DWS technology estate.

We are looking for :

- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Typically 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or a comparable technology role.
- Strong understanding of modern application architecture, distributed systems, APIs, integration patterns, and cloud-native design principles.
- Experience in designing and building or integrating with ABAC or RBAC controls or systems (IAM)
- Strong Java experience, including the Java ecosystem, Spring Boot, J2EE/Jakarta EE, and modern JDKs.
- Ability to break down complex problems into clear, actionable, and implementable solution components.
- Experience working with engineers, product teams, business stakeholders, and architecture or governance forums.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in financial services, asset management, or another regulated environment.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with .NET, TypeScript, Python, or modern front-end and service development approaches.
- Understanding of data architecture, data pipelines, data governance, and data consumption patterns.
- Experience with TOGAF, SAFe, or comparable architecture and delivery frameworks.
- Experience defining reusable architecture patterns, decision trees, architecture decision records, and design standards.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with the ability to assess their practical relevance for enterprise adoption.
- Confident conversational and professional proficiency (B2)—you can comfortably negotiate, present, and collaborate with German-speaking clients.
- Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
