Position Summary

The Advocacy Lead will turn BADIL’s research, analysis, and journalism into sustained influence on policy and political debate. This is a senior, ownership-level role: the Advocacy Lead will design and run BADIL’s advocacy strategy, build and manage relationships with decision-makers across political systems, and represent the organization publicly, working closely with the editorial and research teams and contributing to BADIL’s wider mission.

We are looking for someone with deep, first-hand experience of Lebanese and regional politics: its institutions, parties, parliamentary and ministerial processes, and wider political landscape. The right candidate understands the progressive orientation of the organization, can engage as a peer with senior colleagues on political developments, and has a track record of moving policy rather than only commenting on it.

Strong contextual grounding and an established network in Lebanon are a higher priority for this role.

Reports to: Managing Editor and BADIL Directors.

Location: Beirut, with travel within Lebanon as required

Duties and Responsibilities

Advocacy Strategy and Planning

- Design, lead, and regularly update BADIL's advocacy strategy, setting clear policy objectives, target audiences, and measures of success.

- Identify windows of opportunity in Lebanon's legislative, ministerial, and electoral calendars, and position BADIL’s work to influence them ahead of the news cycle.

- Work with the Managing Editor and research team to shape the research and editorial agenda so that outputs answer the questions decision-makers are asking.

- Review content as part of the editorial process to ensure BADIL’s analysis is consistent with ongoing political developments and the organization’s strategy.

Policy Engagement and Influence

- Build and maintain direct working relationships with members of parliament, parliamentary committees, ministries, political parties, and public institutions across the political spectrum.

- Engage diplomatic missions, donor agencies, and international organisations on BADIL’s policy positions and recommendations.

- Translate BADIL’s analysis into campagn and advocacy products, including policy memos, briefing notes, key messages, and recommendations, in English and Arabic.

- Organize and lead private briefings, roundtables, and closed-door consultations with decision-makers.

Coalitions and Partnerships

- Develop and lead partnerships and coalitions with Lebanese civil society organizations, research institutions, and media partners around shared reform objectives.

- Represent BADIL in advocacy coordination groups and joint initiatives, contributing to shared messages and campaigns.

- Maintain an up-to-date stakeholder map and contact database, and share political intelligence with the wider team.

Public Representation and Campaigns

- Represent BADIL and Triangle in media appearances, panels, conferences, and public forums.

- Work with the communications and multimedia teams to design public campaigns that connect BADIL’s  policy asks to wider audiences, including through social media, video, and events.

- Serve as a spokesperson on BADIL’s priority issues, responding quickly and accurately to political developments.

- Track and report on advocacy outcomes, documenting where and how BADIL’s work has shaped policy, legislation, or public debate.

Qualifications

Political and Contextual Depth

- At least 7 years of professional experience working on Lebanese politics and policy, whether in advocacy, government relations, political parties, parliament, civil society, think tanks, or journalism.

- Detailed, working knowledge of Lebanon's political institutions, legislative and budgetary processes.

- An established network among Lebanese decisionmakers and media, and the credibility to work across the political spectrum.

- Clear alignment with, and understanding of, the progressive orientation of the organization.

Advocacy Track Record

- Demonstrated experience designing and leading advocacy strategies or campaigns, with concrete examples of influencing legislation, policy, or public debate in Lebanon.

- Experience building and managing coalitions or multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Communication and Language

- Full professional fluency in Arabic and English.

- Demonstrated experience representing an organization in the media and in high-level meetings.

Educational Background

- Master's degree in political science, law, public policy, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
