Lead Designer

The Role
The Lead Designer role at Avalere Health is the day-to-day creative lead across projects and accounts, responsible for shaping high-quality, strategically effective design solutions across print, digital, social, presentation, and emerging channels. Working closely with writers, strategists, client services, studio and production teams, the Lead Designer guides creative development from brief through execution, ensuring work is cohesive, brand-aligned, and impactful.

What You'll Do

Creative Leadership & Design Excellence

- Act as the primary day-to-day creative lead across projects, ensuring work is strategically aligned, creatively strong, and delivered to the highest standards.

- Lead the development of integrated creative solutions across print, digital, social, presentation, motion, and emerging channels.

- Guide and review creative work from Designers and Senior Designers, providing clear direction and actionable feedback that elevates quality.

- Challenge briefs constructively, identifying opportunities to strengthen creative effectiveness and deliver greater impact.

- Translate complex scientific, healthcare, and technical information into compelling visual communications.

Creative Systems & Innovation

- Build and embed reusable templates, toolkits, frameworks, and design systems that improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability.

- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce duplication while maintaining creative excellence.

- Champion innovation in design approaches, tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows where appropriate.

Stakeholder Management & Influence

- Present concepts, creative rationale, and recommendations confidently to internal teams and clients.

- Influence stakeholders through strong design thinking, clear communication, and evidence-based creative decisions.

- Manage expectations around creative scope, quality, timelines, and deliverables.

Collaboration & Delivery

- Lead collaboration between Design, Copy, Strategy, Client Services, Studio, Digital, and Production teams to deliver integrated solutions.

- Ensure creative intent is maintained throughout the project lifecycle from briefing to final delivery.

- Support effective project planning by identifying risks, dependencies, and resourcing requirements early.

Team Development

- Mentor and develop Designers and Senior Designers through coaching, feedback, and knowledge sharing.

- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing creative culture.

- Contribute to capability development, onboarding, and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

Previous experience leading design projects from brief through to delivery, within an agency environment (ideally pharma)
Strong integrated design portfolio demonstrating excellence across digital, print, social, presentation, and campaign work.
Stakeholder and client management experience, including presenting creative concepts and influencing decision-making through strong creative rationale.
Experience translating complex information into compelling visual communications, ideally within healthcare, scientific, or regulated sectors.
T rack record of developing design systems, templates, toolkits, and scalable creative processes that improve quality and efficiency.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working effectively with copywriters, strategists, client services, digital, studio, and production teams to deliver high-quality work.
