Senior Backend Engineer - Operator Team

Your role

Fastned aims to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility by giving freedom to electric drivers. As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Operator team , you will help build and evolve the software that enables Fastned to operate one of Europe’s most reliable fast-charging networks.

The team owns Revolt Admin , Fastned’s internal operations platform used by Customer Operations, Network Operations and Field Operations to manage and monitor stations, chargers, charging sessions, users and payments. By improving this platform, you will have a direct impact on the scalability and reliability of Fastned’s network.

You will work closely with frontend engineers, product management, product design, other engineering teams and internal stakeholders. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys taking ownership, navigating ambiguity and turning complex operational challenges into pragmatic, reliable solutions.

Your overall responsibilities include

- Designing, developing, testing and reviewing reusable, maintainable and scalable code for Revolt Admin and Fastned’s operational platforms;
- Delivering core Operator milestones that improve Revolt Admin, reliability of Fastned’s charging infrastructure;
- Working AI-first: using AI-augmented engineering, agentic workflows and AI tooling as a natural part of how you design, build, test and review, with judgement for where AI is a multiplier and where humans stay in the loop;
- Taking ownership from discovery to post-production;
- Taking operational responsibility for what you build, including monitoring, alerting and incident analysis;
- Helping improve engineering methodologies and best practices, and mentoring others as a senior engineer and technical sparring partner in the Operator team.

Requirements

Who we are looking for

In order to be successful in this role, you bring a strong sense of ownership and a pragmatic, proactive mindset. You enjoy working in a collaborative scale-up environment where things can change quickly and where taking initiative matters.

Additionally, you tick the following boxes:

- You have 7+ years of professional backend experience, with strong hands-on Kotlin and/or Java experience.
- You have experience building and operating microservices in production, using REST APIs, cloud platforms and relational databases.
- You are familiar with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka.
- You have hands-on experience working with Elasticsearch.
- You care about reliability, maintainability and the operational impact of the software you build.
- You communicate clearly, collaborate easily across teams and enjoy mentoring others.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity, making pragmatic trade-offs and taking ownership beyond your immediate team.
- You use AI tooling as part of your engineering workflow, with sound engineering judgement.
- You are fluent in English and have an affinity with Fastned’s mission.

Nice to have

- Experience in e-mobility, energy, charging infrastructure or another operationally complex domain.
- Experience building software for internal, network or field operations.
- Experience with taking technical leadership for a project or domain.
