About the Role
Contoro is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Operations Intern (part-time) to support our day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This role will work closely with our operations, deployment, and leadership teams to maintain accurate financial records, manage expenses, and provide visibility into spending across the company and our deployment projects.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment. In addition to supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable, this person will help us better understand where we are spending money, how individual deployment projects are performing against budget, and where opportunities exist to reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Support day-to-day accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) activities.
- Track vendor invoices, customer invoices, payments, and outstanding balances.
- Help ensure invoices and payments are properly documented, coded, and processed in a timely manner.
- Assist with reconciliations and maintaining accurate accounting records.
Bookkeeping & Expense Management
- Maintain and categorize company expenses in Ramp and QuickBooks .
- Review transactions and ensure expenses are assigned to the appropriate account, department, vendor, or project.
- Assist with reviewing and approving employee reimbursements and company expenses.
- Identify missing receipts, documentation, or coding and follow up with employees as needed.
- Help maintain clean and accurate financial records for month-end accounting.
Deployment Project Expense Tracking
- Track expenses associated with individual customer deployment projects.
- Ensure deployment-related purchases, travel, materials, contractors, freight, and other costs are properly allocated to the appropriate project.
- Maintain visibility into actual deployment spending compared with project budgets.
- Work with deployment and operations teams to identify unexpected or increasing project costs.
- Help develop consistent processes for tracking deployment costs across multiple sites.
Cost Analysis & Savings
- Analyze company and project expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Review recurring expenses, vendors, subscriptions, purchasing patterns, and deployment costs.
- Identify areas of unnecessary or excessive spending.
- Compare vendor pricing and spending trends when appropriate.
- Provide recommendations and supporting data to help management reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Prepare recurring expense, budget, AP/AR, and deployment cost reports for management.
- Help improve accounting and expense-management workflows as the company grows.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting, audits, investor due diligence, and financial reporting.
- Work with our internal team and external accountants to ensure financial information is accurate and complete.
Qualifications
- Experience with bookkeeping, accounting operations, finance, or a related function.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Experience with QuickBooks ; experience with Ramp is preferred.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable analyzing expenses and identifying trends or discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently and follow up with different teams to obtain necessary information.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where responsibilities may evolve as the company grows.
