As our Canada Gas Projects organization continues to grow, we are seeking a Director, Project Controls (Canada Gas Projects) to lead and evolve our Project Controls capability in support of the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of capital investments.

Reporting to the Vice President, Project Services, this role is accountable for providing enterprise-level leadership and vision for project controls across the Canada Gas portfolio. The Director serves as a strategic partner to Project Execution leadership, driving project delivery excellence through the integration of planning, estimating, scheduling, cost management, progress measurement, materials management, and performance analytics.

The successful candidate will champion the evolution of project controls as a strategic business function that enables superior decision quality, predictability, and value realization. They will challenge the status quo, continuously improve processes, systems, and methodologies, and ensure that project controls practices are fit for purpose across a broad spectrum of projects, including regulated and non-regulated investments, energy infrastructure projects, integrity and maintenance programs, and large-scale capital developments.

This leader will cultivate a culture of accountability, transparency, innovation, and performance, ensuring project teams and senior leaders have timely, accurate, and actionable insights to make informed investment and execution decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

What You'll Do

- Provide enterprise-level leadership for Canada Project Controls, establishing a long-term vision, strategic priorities, and a continuous improvement roadmap aligned with business objectives and capital investment strategies.
- Serve as a trusted strategic partner to Project Execution leadership, integrating project controls with project management, engineering, construction, commercial, and governance functions to achieve world-class project delivery outcomes.
- Champion project delivery excellence by ensuring project controls capabilities proactively inform decision-making, improve predictability, manage risk, and maximize business value throughout the project lifecycle.
- Challenge existing practices and drive transformation of project controls processes, systems, tools, and governance to improve efficiency, scalability, and decision quality across the portfolio.
- Ensure project controls frameworks, methodologies, and performance metrics are fit for purpose and appropriately tailored to the unique requirements of capital projects completed in the regulated and non-regulated environments, including natural gas pipeline and facility projects, energy infrastructure projects, and reliability and integrity programs.
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative approaches, digital solutions, data analytics, and performance insights that enhance transparency, forecasting accuracy, and executive decision-making.
- Drive consistency, standardization, and governance across all Project Controls disciplines including estimating, planning, scheduling, cost control, progress measurement, reporting, analytics, materials management, and invoice management while enabling flexibility where business needs require differentiated approaches.
- Foster a culture of proactive risk identification, trend analysis, and early intervention to improve project outcomes and strengthen organizational confidence in project performance forecasts.
- Engage with business unit leadership, governance groups, corporate functions, and external stakeholders to advance best-in-class project controls and project governance practices.
- Collaborate with enterprise Project Controls leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to influence and shape company-wide standards, processes, systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide strategic insight and recommendations to senior leadership regarding portfolio performance, project risks, investment decisions, resource allocation, and project readiness.
- Determine short- and long-term organizational capability requirements, including workforce planning, succession management, leadership development, and acquisition of specialized expertise necessary to meet future business demands.
- Represent Canada Gas Projects in executive reviews, governance forums, and enterprise reporting processes, ensuring transparent and accurate communication of project performance, cost, schedule, risk, and forecast information.
- Facilitate alignment among project teams, finance, commercial, accounting, audit, strategy, and governance organizations to ensure consistent and reliable reporting of project status and financial performance.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in project controls, project management, capital project execution, or related leadership roles, including significant experience leading teams within complex project environments.
- Demonstrated success leading organizational transformation, process improvement initiatives, and enterprise-wide change management efforts.
- Proven experience partnering with senior leadership teams to establish strategy, influence decision-making, and drive improved business outcomes.
- Deep expertise in project planning and execution environments, including estimating, scheduling, cost management, risk management, forecasting, project reporting, performance measurement systems, and governance frameworks.
- Extensive experience supporting large, complex, multi-disciplinary capital projects, preferably within the energy, infrastructure, utility, or industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to balance standardization and governance requirements with fit-for-purpose controls that support diverse project types and delivery models.

Preferred Qualifications

- MBA or other relevant postgraduate degree.
- Professional certification in Project Management, Project Controls, Cost Engineering, Risk Management, or related discipline.
- Field construction experience supporting large energy infrastructure, pipeline, facilities, or major capital projects.
- Experience developing and implementing enterprise project controls systems, digital solutions, data analytics platforms, and performance reporting frameworks.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and stakeholders influencing Canadian energy infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective strategic partnerships with engineering firms, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and key business stakeholders.
- Experience supporting both regulated and non-regulated investment portfolios and applying differentiated project controls approaches to optimize project outcomes.
