Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary/Overview

The Parkway Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for making major and minor mechanical repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, including keeping all equipment in efficient, operable condition at all times, as well as organizing and maintaining a clean service area and maintenance shop. Equipment may range from small engine or handheld equipment, lawn maintenance tools and machines, utility and golf carts, passenger vehicles, and aerial lifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects in many types of lawn maintenance equipment and vehicles as required

- Sharpen, balance, replace, and properly adjust mower blades

- Regularly inspects tires on vehicles to determine proper wear and replacement needs

- Performs general maintenance of motors, including but not limited to, repairing and adjusting specific components of transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, radiators

- Installs and adjusts brakes, batteries, tires, wiring, and glass

- Replaces and adjusts headlights and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers

- Repairs or replaces parts such as gears, valves, and bearings

- Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels

- Replaces/repairs and adjusts suspension and steering components, repairs or replaces shock absorbers

- Operation of hydraulic lifts to raise vehicles as needed to gain access to underside of vehicles for maintenance

- May be responsible for removing and repairing units such as small equipment and lawn maintenance engines, transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems.

- Performs oil and filter changes and other preventative maintenance as needed

- Troubleshoots/repairs hydraulic systems, pumps and valves

- May occasionally perform painting or body repair work

- Completes work orders and maintains records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, material orders, and time worked

- Keeps maintenance building neat with parts/tools put up when not in use

- Trains new crew members in the proper procedures of greasing and fueling equipment

- Maintains inventory, orders parts, and reorders stock items

- Assists in the transportation of broken equipment as directed

- Ensures proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and stays focused and engaged

- Performs all duties in adherence to Company standards

- Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices

- Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers

- Performs other duties as assigned

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include such other responsibilities and duties as assigned from time to time, based upon OTOW Inc. needs or requirements.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.

- Ability to lift and carry tools, parts, and equipment components.

- Ability to work outdoors in Florida weather conditions.

- Ability to work around noise, gasoline, oils, lubricants, and other common maintenance materials while following appropriate safety procedures.

- Ability to safely move and position equipment for inspection and repair.

- Ability to lift and/or push up to 100 lbs on occasion and up to 50 lbs frequently

Qualifications

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education and Experience:

- High School Diploma or equivalent required

- 3+ years of related experience required

- Valid Drivers License and acceptable driving history

- Must pass a background check and drug screening

Skills and Knowledge:

- Must be able to read, write and understand English and follow written and oral instructions

- Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred

- Knowledge of preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and record keeping

- Strong organizational skills

- Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and mechanical systems

- Ability to safely operate and test commercial lawn equipment
