Patient Care Technician, Neurosurgical ICU, Full Time, Days

Location: Jackson Memorial Hospital- Neurosurgical ICU

Shift and Schedule : Day shift (7 AM to 7 PM), Full Time

Summary

Patient Care Technician is a member of the health care team who performs functions which support the delivery of a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs.

Responsibilities

- Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
- Assists health care team with simple procedure; prepares supplies equipment; provides patient/family support, assists in positioning patients, sets up/or remove equipment etc.
- Performs a variety of tasks associated with generalized patient care (vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV lines, drainage, personal hygiene: bath, dressing, bed making/linen changes etc.).
- Utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care (spirometer, restraints etc.).
- Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas and stretchers between patient use.
- Transports patients to and from treatment areas when needed. Cleans clinic area he/she is assigned to after patients' treatment is finished at the end of day according to departmental procedures.
- Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
- Assists in the fabrication of adaptive and assistive equipment, i.e. washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps, etc.
- Keeps the storage closet in order and stocked.
- Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency checklist
- Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required.
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

- Generally, requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
- Prior nursing support experience is highly preferred

Education

- High School Diploma or successful completion of GED is required.

Unit Specific Credential

- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity
