We are looking for a Senior AI-Native Mobile Engineer with deep expertise in native iOS engineering and strong fluency in Generative AI, Agentic AI, and AI-assisted software engineering practices .

This is not a traditional mobile development role .

This role combines the expectations of a senior hands-on iOS technical leader with the mindset of an AI-native engineer who helps define how modern mobile applications are designed, built, tested, and delivered using A

Role Summary / Purpose

The Senior AI-Native Mobile Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading the design, development, and evolution of high-quality iOS applications and shared mobile capabilities. This role provides hands-on technical leadership across application architecture, feature delivery, AI-powered mobile experiences, performance, reliability, security, accessibility, observability, and developer experience.

The role partners closely with Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Android engineers, QE leads, backend engineers, architects, and platform teams to deliver scalable, secure, and consistent customer experiences. In addition to strong native mobile engineering depth, this role is expected to actively leverage and champion AI-assisted and AI-native engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Native Mobile Engineering

- Lead the technical design, development, and delivery of complex native iOS features and platform capabilities.

- Design and build high-quality mobile applications using Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Xcode, and Apple’s iOS SDKs .

- Define and apply scalable architecture patterns that ensure maintainability, testability, performance, and alignment with enterprise standards.

- Build secure, performant, reliable mobile applications with strong attention to accessibility and user experience.

- Integrate backend services using REST, GraphQL, WebSocket , and related service patterns.

- Collaborate with backend and platform engineering teams on API contracts, authentication, resiliency, error handling, and service integration requirements.

- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues involving crashes, performance bottlenecks, networking, concurrency, memory management, and application stability.

- Drive best practices for code quality, automated testing, observability, release readiness, and operational excellence.

- Contribute to reusable iOS components, frameworks, SDKs, shared libraries, and mobile platform foundations.

- Partner with Android engineers to promote consistent mobile patterns, shared standards, and cohesive cross-platform experiences.

Generative AI & Agentic AI

- Integrate LLM capabilities into mobile applications to enable AI-powered conversational, search, recommendation, and workflow-driven experiences.

- Build production-quality mobile experiences powered by Generative AI and AI agents .

- Integrate AI models and services such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Gemini, Claude , or enterprise AI platforms.

- Implement streaming responses, tool/function calling, structured outputs, and multimodal experiences within mobile applications.

- Build and integrate AI agents and agentic workflows that improve customer experience or engineering execution.

- Work with technologies such as MCP, RAG, LangGraph, LangChain , or equivalent orchestration frameworks where appropriate.

- Design secure AI architectures covering data handling, context management, authentication, authorization, privacy, and governance.

- Help define practical standards for safe, scalable adoption of AI in mobile applications within a regulated environment.

AI-Native Software Engineering

- Actively leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and other LLM-based engineering tools for code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and technical discovery.

- Build AI-powered workflows across the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, implementation, testing, and code review.

- Explore and develop engineering agents that can interpret Jira stories, analyze codebases, generate implementation plans, and support development workflows.

- Automate repetitive engineering activities using AI agents, developer tools, and intelligent workflows.

- Champion practical AI-assisted engineering practices while maintaining strong engineering judgment, quality, security, and compliance standards.

- Continuously evaluate emerging AI models, coding assistants, agents, frameworks, and developer productivity tools.

Mobile Platform, Engineering Excellence & Leadership

- Help establish reusable AI capabilities and engineering patterns across mobile teams.

- Develop common patterns, APIs, SDKs, frameworks, and standards for AI-powered mobile experiences.

- Improve mobile build and release reliability through contributions to CI/CD pipelines, build automation, code-quality gates, security scanning, and deployment workflows .

- Drive mobile observability through crash analytics, performance monitoring, logging, release-health metrics, and rollout analysis.

- Participate in architecture reviews, technical spikes, proof-of-concepts, and design discussions for foundational mobile capabilities.

- Mentor and coach engineers on Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, architecture, testing, debugging, and technical decision-making .

- Produce clear technical documentation, including design proposals, implementation guidance, architecture decision records, and operational runbooks.

- Participate in Agile ceremonies, PI planning, ART syncs, and cross-team coordination, identifying and escalating technical risks early.

- Contribute to communities of practice, engineering standards, internal knowledge sharing, and developer experience improvements.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

- Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience in Information Technology, or in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of relevant experience in Information Technology.
- Strong hands-on experience in native iOS development, with deep production expertise in Swift , SwiftUI , UIKit , Xcode , and Apple’s iOS SDKs . Working knowledge of Android development concepts, Kotlin , and Jetpack Compose is good to have.
- Demonstrated experience designing , building , and supporting production-scale iOS applications.
- Strong understanding of iOS architecture patterns , including MVVM , Clean Architecture , modularization , dependency injection , and coordinator-based navigation, where applicable. Familiarity with Android architecture principles is a plus.
- Strong understanding of performance, security, testing, accessibility, observability, and release engineering for mobile applications.
- Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs, microservices, authentication services, API gateway patterns , and modern backend services.
- Strong knowledge of Swift concurrency, async/await, actors, GCD, reactive programming, and asynchronous networking .
- Experience building reusable iOS components , frameworks, SDKs, or shared libraries.
- Hands-on experience integrating Generative AI / LLM capabilities into software applications.
- Experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, structured outputs, or AI agents .
- Demonstrated AI fluency, including productive use of GitHub Copilot or equivalent AI-assisted development tools .

- Experience with CI/CD, build automation, code signing, provisioning, test automation, and release workflows .

- Strong testing experience including unit, integration, UI, and automation testing using tools such as XCTest and XCUITest .

- Familiarity with secure coding practices, static analysis, dependency scanning, and mobile security standards .

- Working knowledge of Android architecture and development concepts to enable effective cross-platform collaboration.

- Strong analytical, system design , debugging , problem-solving , and technical communication skills.

- Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate effectively across teams without direct authority.

- Experience working in Agile delivery environments at scale , including SAFe or similar frameworks .

- Experience in financial services or other regulated, security-sensitive environments .

- Experience working with distributed, cross-shore engineering teams across time zones.

This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs).
