Position Summary:

SRL is the national reference laboratory for Sonic Healthcare USA. The Scientist I is responsible for performing routine extractions of patient samples and routine analysis of LC-MS/MS analytical techniques accurately and efficiently following SRL procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Prepares non-critical solutions (mobiles phases and buffers)
- Performs automated and routine liquid-liquid extractions, supported liquid extractions or dilute and shoot extractions
- Works independently to plan and conduct laboratory work
- Documents promptly and clearly all procedural processes
- Perform basic maintenance and setup of LC-MS/MS or HPLC instruments
- Monitors assays on LC-MS/MS instruments of HPLC instruments
- Learn to apply basic troubleshooting skills of instrumentation
- Performs Primary Responsible Person (PRP) duties relating to assigned assays to include preparation and counting of SSU, IS, MB, QC, and curve materials.
- Help maintain lab by cleaning glassware, taking out biohazard bins, and maintenance of small equipment
- Assist with filing of paperwork associated with daily production runs
- Assist with maintaining laboratory inventory

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
- 1 year of laboratory experience preferred
- 0-1 years of extraction experience
- 0-1 years of LC-MS/MS experience

Licensure and Certifications:

- None required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively will colleagues, Supervisor and Manager
- Excellent attention to detail
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must be able to work with frequent interruption and fluctuations in workload
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to perform basic calculations as needed
- Ability to follow and implement policies and SOP

Physical Requirements :

This position requires some lifting, up to 50 lbs.  Frequently carrying objects up to 10 lbs. This position also requires some pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, bending, and sitting for extended periods. Frequent repetitive hand and arm movement, eye-hand-foot coordination, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, balance, depth perception, hearing acuity, color vision, and near and far vision acuity are also required.

Work Conditions:

Indoor temperature controlled environment with occasional exposure to biological and chemical hazards.

Hazards:  Exposure to toxic/caustic/chemicals/detergents. Exposure to moving mechanical parts. Exposure to communicable diseases. Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Gaseous exposure risk.  All safety equipment and personal protective equipment is provided.
