About this role

JOB SUMMARY
Coordinating, planning, design, development, integrating, implementation and evaluation of business and clinical
information systems. Provides oversight/responsibility for the performance and operation of the Informatics team.
Oversees performance on a daily basis, taking corrective action where necessary to ensure functionality, utilization
and availability. Effectively manages staff such that organization/department standards and expectations are realized.
Works collaboratively with SJH users of business/clinical information systems across the continuum. Utilizes
knowledge and skills of business/clinical practice to determine functions that are suitable for computer applications,
ensures the information systems are consistent with professional standards of business/clinical practice, and
participates in the computer training of staff, clinicians and providers. Adheres to and practices SJH's Corporate
Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned by
the Executive Director IT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical Nurse Practice
Responsible for supporting and directing use of EMR software in clinical nursing and physician practice across all
clinical areas.
Evaluates clinical work flow and documentation. Implements changes to improve documentation of patient care.
Coordinates with Clinical staff to understand impact of application configurations to meet clinical goals and
expectations with patient safety as first priority.
Educates Physicians on new processes and consults with Physicians on difficult work flow issues in retrieving
information for patient documentation.
Maintains a very detailed understanding of product content, functionality and interaction.
Helps to develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of IT services.

Program Planning
Develops program planning for patient populations.
Supports the multidisciplinary team approach.
Works with others to identify opportunities to optimize software and process improvement of the systems that are
supported; has an expert depth of knowledge in assigned applications.

Management Responsibilities
Maintains detailed records of all processes, procedures, and analytical findings. Prepares reports as needed to
convey information for teams to make decisions.
Leads teams and meetings on informatics topics.
Supervises Informatics team, preparing schedules, assigning tasks and projects, ensuring resources are used to
meet goals in a cost effective manner.
Responsible for ensuring staff are supported by Informatics in all activities.
Ensures organization meets all required metrics and complies with best practices and documentation.

Other Responsibilities
Self-evaluates professional knowledge and actively seeks out educational opportunities for development.
Assists, teaches and answers questions for colleagues. Presents self as a resource at (1) the unit level and (2) at
the organizational level.
Mentors and precepts new staff at (1) the unit level and (2) at the organizational level.
Develops and provides educational instruction at the unit level (conducts in-services and is involved with
competency review) and at the organizational level.
Completes hospital wide and unit specific competencies in a timely manner.
Obtains, renews, and keeps required license and certifications current. Assumes responsibility for providing HR with
all current licenses and certifications. Keeps information current in department education file.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Required: Associates degree and a minimum of three years of health care experience.
Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing or clinical sciences area, experience in electronic health record
implementation, and education or certification in information technology.

Minimum Work Experience
Required: Must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities with excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong
computer skills. Collaborative practice experience. Experience in delivering care from a team approach. Works well
within the team structure.

Required Licenses: Current RN License with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions
Office setting. All areas of organization. Frequent stressful situations. Staff and project management with compressed
deadlines. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. 70% of time walking and standing. 30% of time sitting and computer use.

All hospital employees, physicians, community agencies, vendors, and guests.
