Fire Alarm Construction Manager

At Johnson Controls, our Fire business serves customers across schools, universities, hospitals, commercial properties, industrial buildings, and government facilities with fire alarm, fire sprinkler, fire suppression, integrated security, sound and communications, and nurse call systems and services. In this role, you will help lead construction installation projects that protect people, property, and critical operations.

Role Overview

The Fire Alarm Construction Manager is responsible for the daily leadership and coordination of fire alarm construction installation projects . This is a field-focused role, spending much of the time onsite with customers, installers, and project partners to keep work safe, organized, on schedule, and financially on track. The ideal candidate is hands-on, entrepreneurial, and experienced in fast-paced commercial fire alarm installation environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage daily operations of construction installation projects for fire alarm systems.
- Coach and mentor technicians, apprentices, and other direct reports.
- Order materials and equipment needed to support project execution.
- Monitor project financials, budgets, and hours assigned to each job.
- Maintain installer schedules and coordinate labor planning with operations.
- Provide accurate project status updates during WIP meetings.
- Attend construction meetings and interface with end-users, architects, and general contractors.
- Conduct regular job site safety walkthroughs, EHS evaluations, and accident investigations.
- Support interviewing and evaluation of employees and apprentices as needed.

How You Will Do It

- Lead with accountability in the field, keeping safety, quality, and integrity at the center of every project decision.
- Stay close to the work by visiting job sites regularly, removing obstacles quickly, and keeping customers informed.
- Set clear productivity and performance expectations, then follow through with coaching and constructive feedback.
- Maintain current and documented safety and industry training for all technicians so they are prepared before arriving onsite.
- Use WIP meetings, scheduling tools, and project updates to keep execution visible and financially disciplined.
- Work collaboratively with Operations and project partners, using candor and problem-solving to improve results every day.
- Build trust across teams by bringing together diverse perspectives and aligning everyone around project goals.

Qualifications

- 5-10 years of management experience in fire alarm installation within the commercial industry.
- Project management experience.
- Estimating experience.
- Fire Alarm, Access Controls, and CCTV certifications.
- Experience with Excel and other Microsoft products.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with personal computers, including Windows 7/XP/NT/2000.
- Strong field presence and the ability to spend 70%-80% of the time visiting project sites and customers.

Nice to Have

- NICET Certification license 3 or greater.
- Knowledge of P&L.

HIRING SALARY RANGE:   $100k-115k (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
