Overview

The Pediatric Rehabilitation Program at Children’s Mercy Kansas City provides comprehensive, collaborative care for children and adolescents with physical disabilities and complex conditions that impact function, mobility, development, and quality of life. Our multidisciplinary team brings together diverse specialties to provide early, coordinated, and individualized interventions that help children maximize their function, independence, participation, and overall well-being.

Many of the programs within Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine are nationally recognized. Our inpatient rehabilitation program is CARF accredited and provides specialized care for children and adolescents with brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurologic disorders, brain and spinal cord tumors, trauma, and other conditions resulting in a change in function. Our outpatient services include both general rehabilitation medicine and multidisciplinary specialty programs. These include the Muscle Nerve Program, certified as a Duchenne Care Center; the Limb Differences Clinic, an affiliate of the Association of Children with Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC); and the Spinal Differences Clinic, recognized as a partner of the Spina Bifida Association (SBA).

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who is energized by variety, collaboration, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference across a child’s rehabilitation journey. This unique role blends inpatient rehabilitation consultation with outpatient clinical practice, creating opportunities to care for children across diagnoses, settings, and stages of recovery.

As a key member of the Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine team, the APP will:

- Provide inpatient rehabilitation consultations, partnering with hospital-based teams to assess functional needs, identify rehabilitation opportunities, support care planning, and help facilitate appropriate transitions to the next phase of care.

- Manage patients in outpatient general rehabilitation clinics, developing expertise in the longitudinal care of children with a wide range of functional, neurologic, musculoskeletal, and developmental needs.

- Participate in multidisciplinary specialty clinics, collaborating with physicians, nurses, therapists, surgeons, orthotists/prosthetists, and other pediatric specialists to develop coordinated plans of care.

- Build lasting relationships with children and families, supporting them through recovery, growth, changing functional needs, and transitions across the continuum of care.

- Practice with a meaningful level of autonomy while benefiting from the support and expertise of an experienced rehabilitation medicine team.

- Help shape the future of the program through opportunities for clinical innovation, quality improvement, education, program development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The APP will join a highly collaborative team of physicians, APPs, and RN coordinators committed to comprehensive, family-centered rehabilitation care. ## Responsibilities
- Clinical Practice: competently provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing care to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. - Professional Practice: actively participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse mentor.

Qualifications

- Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.

- DNP preferred and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.

- Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire

- Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire

- RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO

- APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire

- Successful completion of national board certification in one of the following:

- Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) MO & KS Required Upon Hire

- Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

PNP Primary or Acute Care will be required - will have 2 years to enroll in a program and 5 years to complete the program

- Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
