Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technician- Uncrewed Maritime Systems

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Electrical / Electronics Engineering Technician to support the development, integration, testing, and operation of advanced uncrewed maritime systems.

This position will work closely with electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineers to build, install, troubleshoot, test, and maintain electrical and electronic systems aboard uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), associated test platforms, and integrated payload systems.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working both at a lab bench and aboard a vessel, can build high-quality electrical assemblies from engineering documentation, and is capable of systematically troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems in laboratory, dockside, and field environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Assemble, install, modify, and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems used on uncrewed surface vessels.

- Support the electrical and physical integration of mission payloads, sensors, communications equipment, and other customer- or program-specific systems onto USV platforms.

- Assist engineering teams with payload power, communications, cabling, mounting, installation, checkout, and functional testing.

- Build cable and wire harness assemblies from schematics, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, and engineering instructions.

- Perform wire preparation, crimping, soldering, connector termination, labeling, routing, and harness installation.

- Install and integrate electrical enclosures, sensors, actuators, power distribution equipment, communications equipment, navigation equipment, and other vessel electronics.

- Support integration of DC power systems, including batteries, circuit protection, power distribution, DC/DC converters, relays, contactors, and associated wiring.

- Assist engineers with prototype assembly, system integration, design changes, hardware modifications, and rapid development efforts.

- Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, current probes, CAN/network diagnostic tools, and other test equipment.

- Diagnose wiring faults, power issues, communication problems, intermittent connections, sensor issues, and component failures.

- Support integration and troubleshooting of CAN bus, NMEA 2000, Ethernet, serial, and other vessel and payload communication interfaces.

- Perform continuity, insulation, voltage, current, and functional testing of electrical assemblies and installed systems.

- Support dockside, on-water, and field testing of USVs and integrated payloads.

- Document test results, discrepancies, repairs, modifications, and as-built configurations.

- Maintain organized wiring, labeling, workmanship, and configuration control throughout prototype and production builds.

- Provide feedback to engineering regarding manufacturability, serviceability, installation, and recurring hardware issues.

- Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment, tools, components, cables, and electrical inventory.

- Follow established safety practices when working around batteries, energized electrical systems, machinery, vessels, and marine environments.

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- 2+ years of hands-on experience in electrical/electronics assembly, integration, maintenance, manufacturing, field service, or a related technical environment.

- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pinout tables, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.

- Experience with wire harness fabrication, connector termination, crimping, and soldering.

- Comfortable using a digital multimeter and standard electrical/electronic test equipment.

- Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform hands-on installation and integration work.

- Ability to work independently from engineering drawings and instructions while effectively communicating questions, discrepancies, and technical issues.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

- Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, operators, and other team members in a fast-paced development environment.

- Ability to successfully complete required employment and program-related background screening.

- Must be eligible and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance if required by program or customer needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

- Marine electrical or marine electronics systems

- Payload integration or integration of customer-furnished equipment

- Uncrewed vehicles, robotics, autonomous systems, or defense systems

- 12 VDC, 24 VDC, or 48 VDC power systems

- CAN bus, DroneCAN, or NMEA 2000

- Ethernet and serial communications

- GPS/GNSS, IMUs, navigation sensors, or autopilot systems

- RF, communications, cameras, or other mission payload systems

- Motors, motor controllers, actuators, pumps, or steering systems

- Battery systems and DC power distribution

- Environmental sealing and marine-grade electrical installation practices

- Prototype development and low-rate production

- PCB rework, modification, and component-level troubleshooting

- Previous experience supporting DoD, government, or defense-industry programs

Travel Requirements

This position will support engineering, integration, and test activities at multiple South Florida facilities and test locations.

- Regular local travel between company facilities and work sites in West Palm Beach, Stuart, and Fort Pierce, Florida will be required.

- Candidates must be able to travel between these locations based on engineering, integration, production, and testing needs.

- Occasional additional travel may be required to support field testing, demonstrations, customer activities, payload integrations, or other program needs.

- A valid driver's license and ability to reliably travel between work locations are required.

Due to the nature of the systems, customers, and programs supported by this position:

- Candidates must be able to successfully complete applicable background screening.

- Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance when required.

- Some work may involve controlled, proprietary, export-controlled, or otherwise sensitive technical information.

- Candidates are expected to comply with all applicable company, customer, facility, information-security, and program security requirements.

What Success Looks Like

A successful technician in this role will be able to take engineering documentation and turn it into reliable, professional-quality hardware aboard an operational vessel. They will identify problems early, troubleshoot issues methodically, maintain excellent workmanship, and become a trusted bridge between engineering designs and the physical systems operating aboard our vessels.

They will also be comfortable supporting rapidly changing integration efforts, including the installation and checkout of new payloads and customer equipment, and working alongside engineers to solve problems in the lab, at the dock, or aboard a vessel in the field.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

- This is a highly hands-on position involving work in engineering laboratories, production areas, marine facilities, docks, aboard vessels, and in field-test environments.

- Candidates must be able to:

- Safely climb into and out of boats while vessels are on trailers, at docks, and on the water.

- Work aboard vessels that may experience movement due to waves, wakes, or other environmental conditions.

- Work in tight or confined spaces, including equipment compartments, consoles, bilges, and other areas with limited access.

- Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in physically constrained positions for periods of time while installing or troubleshooting equipment.

- Lift, carry, position, and install equipment, tools, cables, batteries, payload components, and other items weighing 40 pounds or more.

- Safely use hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, ladders, and other equipment required for vessel integration and maintenance.

- Perform work outdoors in typical South Florida environmental conditions, including heat, humidity, and direct sunlight.

- Participate in dockside and on-water testing as required.
