Perioperative Support Specialist 1

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Perioperative Support Specialist 1 to join the Team. This full-time role will be day-shift working Monday – Friday and every other weekend located in Fairfax, VA.

Perioperative Support Specialist 1 assists with patient care while retrieving and delivering requested supplies, instruments and equipment to the operating rooms as directed by the surgical team. This role demonstrates professional and advanced knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and surgical procedures. Provides equipment support for operating room staff and surgeons before and/or during the operative procedures to avoid procedure and turnover delays.

Perioperative Support Specialist 1 Responsibilities:

- Assists with the gathering, installation, removal, and cleaning of equipment while utilizing the operating room schedule to anticipate requests.
- Gathers and packs instruments and sterile supplies for scheduled and added cases to provide efficient procedure set up of surgical cases.
- Independently accesses the OR computer system, correctly selects the preference card(s) and prints as needed as evidenced by lack of assistance needed during the process.
- Places returned and new supplies and instruments in the correct location as evidenced by their proper placement.
- Monitors supply levels and obtains needed supplies or reports deficiencies to Perioperative Support Supervisor as evidenced by the lack of unreported missing items.
- Performs monthly checks on Emergency case carts.
- Supports the PeriOp Support OR Aide as indicated.
- Supports additional projects and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Certification - Basic Life Support Upon Start
- Experience - 1 Healthcare/Hospitality One year of experience in healthcare setting or inventory/ equipment management.
- Education - High School or GED
- KSAs - Communication / Critical Thinking • Ability to communicate effectively in order to follow and respond to instruction appropriately / Ability to multitask

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous experience within surgical services preferred.
- Previous experience supporting a perioperative/OR environment preferred.
