Description
The Amazon Now Design Engineering team is seeking an innovative, solutions-oriented Design Engineer to help shape the next generation of Quick Commerce facilities and enable the rapid expansion of Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery network.

We are looking for resourceful engineers who are critical thinkers, comfortable with ambiguity, and excel at cross-functional collaboration. In this role, you will work closely with internal and external partners across Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Workplace Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Technology, and other technical teams to develop high-quality, cost-effective solutions for Amazon Now facilities.
Your projects will span a variety of Quick Commerce facility concepts, design standards, and template-based solutions. You will have the opportunity to influence design strategy, develop new mechanisms and standards, and solve site-specific challenges while building solutions that can scale across the broader Amazon Now network.
You will work alongside a highly skilled and engaged team of engineers in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve quickly and no two sites are exactly the same. Success in this role requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, balance competing requirements, dive deep into technical details, and deliver practical solutions that enable the business to move quickly.
The role requires the ability to travel approximately 25% to collaborate with internal and external business, operational, construction, and technical leaders and to support site-level design and implementation.
Key job responsibilities
• Create detailed 2D CAD and facility layout designs for Amazon Now sites, integrating operational workflows, storage, material handling, decant, staging, delivery, and other facility requirements based on capacity targets and site-specific constraints.
• Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimized Quick Commerce facility solutions, balancing capacity, space utilization, associate experience, operational efficiency, safety, constructability, and cost.
• Develop scalable, template-based design solutions and standards that can be deployed across the Amazon Now network while adapting to the unique physical and operational characteristics of individual sites.
• Develop and present comprehensive technical documentation, including design packages, layouts, engineering calculations, design rationale, and recommendations that clearly communicate how proposed solutions meet business and operational requirements.
• Partner closely with internal teams and external stakeholders across Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Workplace Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Technology, vendors, and other technical teams to deliver high-quality and cost-effective facility solutions.
• Translate business and operational requirements into detailed design strategies, roadmaps, and technical solutions, communicating complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Continuously refine and iterate designs based on stakeholder feedback, site conditions, operational data, lessons learned, and evolving business requirements to improve network scalability, efficiency, and customer experience.
• Evaluate site-specific constraints and develop practical engineering solutions that enable Amazon Now launches while maintaining alignment with design standards, operational requirements, safety expectations, and construction requirements.
• Ensure design solutions meet applicable safety, operational, accessibility, and sustainability requirements while optimizing facility capacity, associate experience, space utilization, and overall cost.
• Stay current with emerging CAD technologies, automation, material handling systems, and industrial engineering best practices to continuously improve design tools, methodologies, and workflows.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Amazon Now design standards, templates, mechanisms, and best practices, helping establish scalable solutions for the broader network.
• Support design reviews, permit submissions, construction coordination, and site-level implementation by providing technical guidance and resolving design issues throughout the project lifecycle.
A day in the life
A typical day as an Amazon Now Design Engineer involves balancing technical design, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll dive into CAD tools to create, refine, and review Quick Commerce facility layouts, translating operational requirements and site constraints into practical, scalable design solutions.
You’ll analyze capacity requirements, site attributes, and operational workflows to inform design decisions and ensure facilities can support current and future business needs. Working closely with Operations, Industrial Engineering, Construction, Real Estate, Workplace Health & Safety, and other technical teams, you’ll translate evolving requirements into detailed facility designs.
You’ll manage multiple projects simultaneously, participate in design reviews, and collaborate with architects, civil engineers, construction teams, and external partners to develop and resolve detailed design requirements. You’ll also investigate site-specific challenges, perform capacity and space-utilization analyses, and develop solutions when standard designs need to be adapted to unique conditions.
As the Amazon Now network continues to evolve, you’ll help identify opportunities to improve design standards, templates, processes, and mechanisms. You’ll stay current with emerging technologies, automation, material handling solutions, and industry best practices, applying these learnings to improve scalability and efficiency across the network.
The role requires a balance of analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, engineering judgment, attention to detail, and strong communication. You’ll be expected to navigate ambiguity, make data-driven design decisions, collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and deliver high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and deadlines.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering
- 4+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with and managing third party vendors
- Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
