Yard Associate 3

Position Summary

The Yard Associate provides helpful, dependable service to customers while supporting sales, product handling, merchandising, inventory, and the daily care of the yard. This role assists customers with building materials, safely loads and moves products, and helps keep the yard, equipment, vehicles, and grounds clean and ready for use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service and Sales

Follow the companys Seven Steps of Customer Service and assist customers promptly and respectfully.

Help customers locate materials, confirm product and quantity information, and provide accurate assistance within the associates knowledge; involve a qualified coworker when needed.

Safely select, stage, load, and secure products for customers in accordance with company procedures, checking orders for accuracy and damage.

Communicate product availability, yard conditions, and customer needs to sales staff and management to support timely service.

Yard Operations and Inventory

Stock, rotate, organize, and merchandise yard products so materials are accessible, clearly identified, and presented well.

Assist with receiving, unloading, putting away, and staging products; check quantities and report discrepancies or damage.

Complete inventory counts and cycle counts as assigned and help investigate discrepancies.

Maintain clean and orderly yard areas, aisles, storage spaces, buildings, and grounds; perform routine upkeep within training and assigned authority.

Complete authorized basic vehicle and equipment checks and maintenance tasks; report defects and coordinate service needs with management.

Safety and Teamwork

Operate forklifts and other yard equipment only after required training and authorization; use safe lifting and material handling practices.

Identify, address when safe, and promptly report hazards, equipment concerns, damaged materials, and unsafe conditions.

Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, loads, and changing conditions throughout the yard.

Cooperate with retail, receiving, delivery, and management teams; participate in training and support shared store priorities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Building materials, hardware, yard, warehouse, or customer service experience preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain company forklift certification and authorization before operating a forklift.

Valid drivers license required for duties that involve driving company vehicles; must meet company driving requirements.

Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
