Advanced Practice Provider, Neurosurgery, Community Health Partners

Overview

Community Health Partners is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Neurosurgery team. In this role, the APP will provide comprehensive care for patients with neurosurgical conditions of the brain and spine, including traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, intracranial hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, degenerative spine disease, neurovascular conditions such as brain aneurysms, and functional neurosurgical conditions such as movement disorders and epilepsy, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Responsibilities include conducting detailed clinical assessments, developing and managing treatment plans, prescribing appropriate therapies, serving as first assist on a wide range of cranial and spine operations, and performing neurosurgical bedside procedures. The APP will support patients throughout the surgical continuum, from initial consultation through surgery, postoperative recovery, and discharge, and ensure high standards of safety and quality. This position follows a 7-on, 7-off schedule with day and night shifts. Night shift responsibilities are assigned based on experience and training.

Our Neurosciences department now includes the Bob Smittcamp Family Neurosciences Institute, a five-story, 60,000-square-foot facility on the Community Regional Medical Center campus that opened in May 2026. Funded by $30 million in community donations, the Institute brings together more than 60 physicians and 30 advanced practice providers across stroke and neurovascular care, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, traumatic brain and spine injury, movement disorders, and neuromuscular disease. Community Regional is certified by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest level of stroke certification and the only one in the five-county region, with 24/7 access to on-site neurosurgical expertise. Neurosurgical patients are cared for in our 30-bed Neurocritical Care Unit, which has earned the AACN Beacon Award for Excellence at the Gold level, and on our 52-bed neuroscience floor.

In this role, you will:

- Provides direct assessment, evaluation and consultative patient care, complying with medical protocols and procedures.

- Provides direct patient management in collaboration with physicians; participates in daily rounds, patient assessments and care plan development.

- Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's healthcare needs. Furnishes medications based upon written protocols.

- Serves as first assist on a wide range of cranial and spine operations.

- Performs neurosurgical bedside procedures as credentialed, including external ventricular drain placement, intracranial pressure monitor (bolt) placement, lumbar puncture, and lumbar drain placement.

- Ensures that patients are counseled regarding treatment plans and the use, dosage and possible side effects of medications.

- Documents and maintain precise and complete records of patients.

- Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings.

- Provides education, training, information and consultation services to interdisciplinary team, patients, family and caregivers.

Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients.5. Effectively communicate treatment plans with patients, family members, and other medical staff members.6. Assist and advise staff members on challenging cases, as needed.7. Refer patients to specialists or other practices, as appropriate.8. Maintain immaculate documentation of all procedures and practices.9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

- Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required

- Credentialed by the CMC Medical Staff Office as an Advance Practice Provider

Licenses and Certifications:

If qualifying as a Nurse Practitioner, the following is required

- NP - Current State of California Nurse Practitioner License required

- NPF - Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number required

If Qualifying as a PA, the following is required:

A current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
