Sourcing Manager, Semiconductor Materials, Electronics Sourcing
The Role
This role owns and drives direct material sourcing for Planarization Sourcing, SP&C (Surface Preparation & Clean) Sourcing, and New Product Introduction (NPI) Sourcing within Electronics Sourcing — covering raw material sourcing for existing production, development procurement for new products originating from the Shizuoka R&D center in Japan, and related project management. Reporting to the Head of Sourcing Planarization, this role owns the full sourcing lifecycle — from stakeholder communication and market and cost analysis to supplier management, vendor negotiation, and contracting. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on global supply continuity across our worldwide production sites, as well as on supporting the significant anticipated growth in material demand driven by the R&D center in Shizuoka, Japan — offering broad exposure to global stakeholders and strategic decision-making.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Manage sourcing of Planarization and SP&C materials from suppliers serving our production sites worldwide, ensuring supply continuity across all regions. Lead vendor search, feasibility studies, and ramp-up for new product development and mass production, while maintaining strong supplier relationships through regular communication, negotiation, and contracting.
- Manage material sourcing for Planarization and SP&C new product development projects led by the global R&D team, proactively driving new product launches with a strong awareness of business needs and supply resilience.
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) sourcing for new materials requested by the R&D center in Shizuoka, Japan, where demand is expected to grow significantly — driving early supplier engagement, feasibility assessment, and close coordination between R&D, procurement, and suppliers to enable a smooth transition from development to mass production.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers when issues arise, maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Continually identify and track opportunities for cost savings and cost avoidance.
- Partner with Supply Chain to maintain healthy inventory levels, and with Quality to ensure supplier compliance and that incoming materials meet specifications and perform reliably in production.
- Represent Planarization, SP&C, and NPI sourcing for the local legal entity, partnering with internal stakeholders on related projects. Collaborate with sourcing managers in other countries to achieve shared group targets, and keep business partners informed to support sound decision-making.
Recommended Education/Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or above (background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Science and Technology is a plus).
- At least 10 years of working experience in direct material sourcing in the semiconductor, display, or chemical industries.
- Strong grounding in strategic sourcing, commercial negotiation, cost analysis, and supplier management.
- Experience in development procurement for new products, with close collaboration across R&D functions.
- Proven project management skills, with experience managing multiple sites or projects concurrently a plus.
- Comfortable collaborating across a multinational, cross-functional environment.
- Native or business-level Japanese and fluent business-level English, enabling effective engagement with local suppliers, R&D sites, and global stakeholders.
