Summary

Develop, evaluate, and submit SRP's day-ahead market position to meet retail customer demand, maintain reliability, and maximize the value of SRP's generation, transmission, fuel, and market portfolio. Responsibilities include load forecasting, generation planning, market bidding, transmission and fuel coordination, wholesale transactions, and development of strategies that optimize portfolio performance.

As SRP participates in SPP Markets+, the Day-Ahead Trader is responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of daily market submissions and for maintaining an accurate position for Real-Time Trading and Generation Dispatch. The position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support reliable, economic, and compliant market operations.

What You'll Do

- Develop, review, and submit SRP's day-ahead market position, including bids, offers, self-schedules, flexibility products, and other market submissions.

- Develop load forecasts, generation plans, and resource commitment recommendations that support the reliable and economic operation of SRP's portfolio.

- Incorporate market conditions, fuel costs, Variable Energy Resource (VER) forecasts, operating constraints, reserve requirements, and transmission availability into market strategies.

- Develop bidding and offer strategies for thermal, renewable, hydro, pumped storage, battery storage, and other energy-limited resources.

- Review market awards and communicate risks, obligations, and operating strategies to Real-Time Trading and Generation Dispatch.

- Coordinate natural gas requirements, transmission arrangements, outage schedules, and resource availability with internal and external stakeholders.

- Negotiate wholesale purchases, sales, exchanges, displacement transactions, and approved arbitrage opportunities within established authorities and risk limits.

- Manage transmission utilization, congestion exposure, and market risk across bilateral and organized market structures.

- Support settlement validation, profit-and-loss analysis, and market performance assessments.

- Participate in market testing, process improvements, operating-procedure development, tool enhancements, and training activities.

- Collaborate with Market Operations Strategy, Operations Planning, Real-Time Trading, Gas Trading, Generation Dispatch, and other stakeholders to optimize SRP's portfolio while maintaining reliability.

- Provide desk coverage, including weekends, holidays, and special operating conditions, and perform other duties as assigned.

Education

A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred. See details under Additional Requirements and Qualifications.
## Experience

We are targeting Senior Level candidates for this role.

Level I — Associate: In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years may be considered.
Level 2 – Journey: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years may be considered.
Level 3 – Senior: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years may be considered.

Eligibility for advancement (progression) to the next level in the same role is based on overall job performance, mastery of all functional responsibilities, and time in position, as assessed by the supervisor.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications

- Experience in power trading, scheduling, generation planning, system operations, market settlements, portfolio management, or related energy market functions.

- Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, generation operations, transmission systems, and power-system operations.

- Knowledge of organized market concepts, including bidding, offers, locational marginal pricing, congestion management, unit commitment, and day-ahead and real-time market operations.

- Knowledge of SRP generation resources, transmission systems, fuel arrangements, contracts, and operating agreements, or the ability to acquire that knowledge.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.

- Ability to forecast load, renewable generation, fuel requirements, market prices, and other portfolio drivers.

- Ability to analyze portfolio and market conditions and develop strategies that support commercial and reliability objectives.

- Ability to use trading, scheduling, forecasting, market-participant, analytical, settlement, and e-Tagging systems.

- Ability to meet market deadlines, operating schedules, and reporting requirements in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, market operators, counterparties, consultants, and other utilities.

- Ability to work weekends and SRP- and NERC-recognized holidays and support special operating conditions when required.

- Occasional travel may be required.

- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, finance, business, economics, engineering, data analytics, energy management, or a related field preferred.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
