Sr. Software Engineer--M365 Storage

<b>Overview</b><br><div dir="ltr"><p>We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the next generation of storage, data, and distributed platform services that power Microsoft 365 and AI workloads at hyperscale.</p><p>In this role, you will design, develop, and operate highly reliable, low-latency, and scalable services. You will work across system architecture, performance optimization, reliability engineering, and AI-native development practices to modernize core platform components and accelerate engineering productivity.</p><p>You will partner with engineers, architects, product leaders, and principal engineers to solve challenging technical problems involving distributed systems, storage infrastructure, databases, high-concurrency services, and cloud-scale operations.</p><p>Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.</p></div><br><br><b>Responsibilities</b><br><div dir="ltr"><ul><li><p>Design, develop, test, and operate large-scale distributed services and platform components.</p></li><li><p>Drive feature development from requirements through design, implementation, deployment, and production support.</p></li><li><p>Improve scalability, reliability, availability, and performance of mission-critical services.</p></li><li><p>Investigate and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems.</p></li><li><p>Optimize latency, throughput, resource efficiency, and storage utilization.</p></li><li><p>Develop and maintain service telemetry, monitoring, diagnostics, and automated recovery mechanisms.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to architectural design reviews and technical decision making.</p></li><li><p>Collaborate across teams to deliver end-to-end platform solutions.</p></li><li><p>Apply AI-assisted development tools and AI-native engineering practices to improve development velocity and software quality.</p></li><li><p>Build automation for testing, validation, deployment, and operational workflows.</p></li><li><p>Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, design discussions, and operational best practices.</p></li><li><p>Participate in on-call rotations and drive improvements that reduce operational burden.</p></li><li><p>Leverage data and production insights to guide technical investments and architectural evolution.</p></li></ul></div><br><br><b>Qualifications</b><br><h3>Required/minimum qualifications</h3><div>Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.</div><div><p><strong>Other Requirements:</strong></p><p>Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:</p><ul><li>Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.</li></ul><h3> </h3><h3>Additional or preferred qualifications</h3><div><ul><li>Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python<ul><li>OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python </li><li>OR equivalent experience. </li></ul></li><li>Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and software design principles.</li><li>Experience building and operating cloud services or distributed systems.</li><li>Experience with service reliability, production operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting.</li><li>Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.</li><li>Ability to independently drive projects from conception to production.</li></ul></div></div> <br><p>This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.</p><br><hr><br><p>Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer.
