Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.

We have an opportunity in Avonmouth for an EC&I Technican to join our team working 40 hours per week, Day Shift Monday to Friday with Callout 1 in 4 on a rota.

The salary for this role will be circa £49,129 per year, and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll play an important part in maintaining the reliability, safety and performance of the plant. From planned maintenance and fault finding to instrument calibration and improvement projects, you’ll use your EC&I expertise to help keep our operations running safely and efficiently.

What will you be doing?

As our EC&I Technician, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical, control and instrumentation equipment across the site.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance inspections in line with site maintenance plans.

- Diagnosing and rectifying EC&I faults to minimise plant downtime.

- Planning and completing corrective and reactive maintenance activities.

- Managing calibration records and carrying out instrument calibrations.

- Working confidently with instrument loop drawings and P&IDs .

- Supporting the maintenance of DCS/SCADA and plant control systems .

- Using our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to accurately record and manage maintenance activities.

- Carrying out plant and area safety inspections.

- Supporting and coordinating contractors working on site.

- Working alongside other engineering disciplines to resolve issues and improve plant performance.

- Identifying and delivering improvement projects that increase plant reliability and help reduce costs.

- Completing dynamic risk assessments where required and ensuring safe systems of work are followed.

- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping through a clean-as-you-go approach.

Above all, you'll make sure your work is completed safely and responsibly, helping us continually reduce health, safety and environmental risk across the facility.

What are we looking for?

You’ll have previous experience working in EC&I engineering within a process, manufacturing or similarly complex industrial environment , along with strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

You’ll also need:

- A City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.

- Experience working with DCS/SCADA systems .

- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) .

- Good knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety.

- An understanding of planned and proactive maintenance strategies and condition monitoring.

- An understanding of safe systems of work, including plant isolations.

- The ability to read and interpret instrument loop drawings and P&IDs .

- Experience coordinating work activities, including contractors.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams.

- A full UK driving licence .

We’d also be interested in hearing from you if you have:

- Previous experience within the waste, Energy Recovery Facility (ERF), MRF or MPT environment.

- Experience working in a multi-skilled engineering position.

- Experience with PLCs, control systems and inverter drives .

- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

- Experience using Root Cause Analysis techniques.

- A formal electrical qualification supporting multi-skilled working.

- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations qualification.
