Consulting Project Adviser

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) is seeking applicants for part-time Consulting Project Adviser positions in Information Systems for Spring 2027. Advisers will guide student teams through the undergraduate IS consulting project course, in which teams work with real clients on real projects. This is an advising role, not a teaching role: advisers do not deliver lectures or lead the course. We anticipate filling two adviser positions, one for each section of the course.

The Information Systems Program at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar offers an undergraduate major which aims to educate students to meet the increasing demand for Information Systems talent in Qatar, the Gulf region, and globally. The position is based at our branch campus in Doha, Qatar (CMUQ) and offers competitive pay.

Responsibilities and time commitment

The time commitment is approximately 12 hours per week for 16 weeks (not counting Spring Break week). In this time, each adviser will advise 3 to 4 student teams. Advisers are typically required to attend each week:

●      The 75-minute class meetings, held in person.

●      An all-adviser meeting

●      Occasional additional meetings with student teams or course faculty, as needed

What makes a good Consulting Project Adviser?

A good adviser allows the student team to lead the project and the client relationship, offering advice and encouragement and assuring the team that they can handle the difficulties that arise. The ideal adviser has deep experience advising, managing, directing, and overseeing a range of software development projects. They bring a real-world perspective to their work with student teams and genuinely care about the students, their work, and the impact they have on their community partner clients.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or a master’s degree in information systems/computer science/business or a closely related field to be considered for this appointment.

We are specifically looking for candidates with a solid background in Information Systems Consulting/Project Management. Additional skills in topics related to Information S ystems in our  core  information systems courses and  concentrations  are also desirable.

This temporary part-time position offers a one-semester opportunity to contribute to the university’s teaching, research, and scholarly missions at the Qatar campus. There is no expectation of extension for this position.
