ROLE SUMMARY:

Kensington International School is seeking a committed and professional School Nurse to provide healthcare, first aid and support to pupils and staff during the school day. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a second nurse, at the same professional level, to ensure consistent, high-quality care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- To provide an initial assessment, first aid and nursing care to pupils and staff who fall ill or sustain injuries during the school day.

- To respond to medical emergencies, coordinate the immediate response and contact families, emergency services or external healthcare providers where necessary.

- Support pupils with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and severe allergies, working with families, teachers and other departments to ensure their health needs are met.

- Receive, store, administer and monitor pupils’ medication in accordance with school procedures and parental authorisations.

- Keep medical records, nursing forms, authorisations, accident records and medication administration records up to date in iSAMS and other designated systems.

- Communicate sensitively and professionally with families regarding illnesses, injuries, treatments and medication, whilst always respecting medical confidentiality.

- Prepare first-aid kits, emergency medication and relevant medical information for school trips, residential trips, coach journeys and special school activities.

- Keep the school infirmary and first-aid kits safe, tidy and properly stocked, carrying out stock checks and checking expiry dates.

- Collaborate with Catering and other departments to ensure clear and up-to-date communication regarding allergies, food intolerances, dietary requirements and specific needs of pupils.

- Contribute to the development and implementation of a health education programme tailored to different age groups, including first aid and CPR, nutrition, hygiene, emotional wellbeing, sexual health and other relevant topics.

- Provide information and guidance to families and staff regarding infectious diseases, head lice or other health issues that may affect a class or group.

- Provide professional advice to school staff on first aid and occupational health, collaborating where necessary with occupational health and safety services.

- Remain alert to possible indicators of pastoral, emotional or safeguarding needs, reporting any concerns in accordance with the procedures established by the school.

- Review and contribute to the improvement of procedures relating to accidents, first aid and healthcare, both during the school day and during extracurricular activities.

- Work closely with the second School Nurse, maintaining effective communication, carrying out clear handovers and coordinating daily responsibilities to ensure continuity of service.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

- A recognised nursing qualification and valid registration or authorisation to practise in Spain.

- Professional experience as a nurse, preferably working with children, adolescents or in an educational setting.

- Solid training and experience in first aid, CPR and emergency response.

- Ability to safely manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and severe allergies.

- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, both spoken and written.

- Good organisational skills, digital record-keeping and attention to detail.

- Discretion and the ability to handle confidential medical information professionally.

- A friendly, empathetic and calm manner, with a clear focus on the care and wellbeing of pupils.

- Commitment to safeguarding principles and procedures and to creating a safe school environment.

- Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, families, teachers, administrative staff and other professionals.

- Commitment to continuous professional development and training, keeping knowledge and skills up to date.
