Assistant Manager, SAP ABAP

SAP ABAP Development

- Design, develop, test, debug, document, and support SAP ABAP developments.
- Develop and maintain: Reports and interfaces
- Enhancements and user exit
- BAdIs and enhancement frameworks
- Function modules and classes
- BAPIs and RFC-enabled objects
- Forms including Smart Forms and Adobe Forms
- Workflows where applicable
- Conversion and migration programs
- Background processing programs

- Perform object-oriented ABAP development using appropriate SAP development standards.
- Review functional specifications and translate business requirements into technical designs and technical specifications.
- Prepare technical specifications with sufficient detail for development, testing, validation, and long-term support.

SAP S/4HANA & Modern Development

- Demonstrate hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA development concepts and technologies.
- Develop and optimize: Core Data Services ( CDS Views )
- ABAP Managed Database Procedures ( AMDP ) where appropriate
- OData services
- APIs and web services
- REST/SOAP-based integrations

- Exposure to ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) is preferred.
- Exposure to SAP BTP ABAP Environment / ABAP Cloud is advantageous.
- Understand S/4HANA data-model simplification and ensure legacy ABAP programs are appropriately redesigned or optimized.
- Follow Clean Core principles , including preference for standard functionality, released APIs, extensibility frameworks, and side-by-side extensions where appropriate.
- Support SAP Fiori/UI5 applications from the ABAP backend and service-development perspective.

Interfaces & Integration

- Develop and support SAP interfaces with SAP and non-SAP applications.
- Work with integration technologies including: IDoc/ALE
- RFC/BAPI
- OData
- REST/SOAP APIs
- Proxy/web services
- File-based integrations

- Collaborate with middleware/integration teams working with platforms such as SAP Integration Suite/CPI or equivalent enterprise integration platforms.
- Implement appropriate interface monitoring, exception handling, reprocessing, logging, and reconciliation mechanisms.
- Ensure interface programs maintain appropriate transactional integrity and prevent duplicate or incomplete processing.

Technical Quality & Performance

- Perform peer code reviews and ensure adherence to SAP development standards.
- Use ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) and other SAP code-quality tools to identify and remediate technical issues.
- Perform performance analysis and optimization using appropriate SAP tools.
- Ensure efficient database access and avoid performance-intensive custom development.
- Follow secure coding standards and address identified vulnerabilities.
- Develop reusable objects and frameworks where technically and commercially appropriate.
- Support remediation of custom code during SAP upgrades, releases, and S/4HANA transformations.

Pharmaceutical / GxP / CSV Responsibilities

- Understand working expectations within a regulated pharmaceutical or life-sciences environment .
- Follow applicable IT quality, change-management, and validation procedures for GxP-relevant SAP functionality.
- Support preparation and review of technical documentation required for Computerized System Validation (CSV) .
- Maintain appropriate traceability from approved functional requirements/specifications to technical developments and test evidence.
- Ensure GxP-relevant developments include appropriate: Auditability
- Data integrity controls
- Error handling
- Authorization checks
- Electronic record considerations
- Logging and traceability

- Support QA/CSV teams during validation, defect resolution, release assessment, and audit activities.
- Ensure production changes are performed through approved change-control and transport-management processes.
- Support regulatory or internal audits by providing technical documentation and evidence when required.
- Awareness of GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, ALCOA+ data-integrity principles, and applicable GxP practices is preferred.

Testing & Deployment

- Perform developer/unit testing for all custom developments.
- Prepare appropriate unit-test documentation and technical evidence.
- Analyse and resolve defects across development and test cycles.
- Support cutover, deployment, hyper care, and post-go-live activities.
- Follow appropriate SAP transport-management procedures across development, quality, validation, and production environments.

Production Support

- Provide Level 2/Level 3 technical support for SAP ABAP-related incidents and problems.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective solutions.
- Monitor and troubleshoot: Dumps
- Failed interfaces
- Background jobs
- Performance problems
- Workflow failures
- Application logs

- Participate in major-incident resolution when SAP technical expertise is required.
- Maintain proper technical documentation for recurring issues and resolutions.

Required Experience & Skills

- 8+ years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in core ABAP and object-oriented ABAP.
- Practical experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA environments.
- Strong experience in enhancements, interfaces, forms, reports, conversions, and workflows.
- Experience with CDS Views, OData, APIs, and modern S/4HANA development approaches.
- Good understanding of SAP functional processes and ability to work effectively with functional consultants.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, performance-tuning, and root-cause-analysis skills.
- Experience working through complete SAP implementation and/or major transformation lifecycle preferred.
- Experience working in geographically distributed or global teams.
- Candidates from either SAP service/consulting companies or product/end-user organizations are acceptable, provided they demonstrate strong hands-on technical capability.

- Pharmaceutical, life-sciences, medical-device, or other regulated-industry experience.
- Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA greenfield or brownfield implementation.
- Knowledge of SAP BTP, ABAP Cloud, RAP, Fiori and SAP Integration Suite.
- Experience with SAP Cloud ALM, Solution Manager, ChaRM, or equivalent lifecycle/change-management platforms.
- Experience working with formal SDLC, ITIL, CSV, GxP, and change-control processes.
- Exposure to SAP security concepts and authorization checks within custom developments.
- SAP ABAP/S/4HANA/BTP-related certification preferred.
