Position Overview
Apollo and Athene are together building a strategic growth hub in Austin — a new office incubating emerging businesses across our combined asset management and retirement solutions platform, spanning product, distribution, infrastructure, and market-making. The Austin team offers the opportunity to build from the ground up with the backing of both firms' scale. This role will be based in Austin.
Apollo is seeking a Principal to join Apollo’s new Austin, Texas office. In this role, the candidate will be a strategic partner to Apollo's Austin Office Leadership team in providing critical support to define, evolve and drive business growth, strategic priorities, manage day-to-day business operations, and coordinate initiatives across the Firm in support of the budget and 5-year plan; all while ensuring diligent management of key decisions and actions items driving the business. This is targeted as a two-year opportunity for a high potential candidate to gain highly differentiated experience and perspective on the firm.
This role will be heavily involved in developing and managing a broad range of business priorities alongside key stakeholders and will drive critical initiatives in partnership and on behalf of senior management. This role requires deep cross-functional collaboration across the firm, exceptional relationship management, technical depth and knowledge of our business model, and a strong focus on execution. A successful candidate will be a strategic partner to the Austin Office Leaders driving day-to-day management of the business and advancing the growth of the a leading asset management and retirement services platform. The ideal candidate is adept at connecting the dots across complex issues, highly organized and detail-oriented, and operates with the highest degree of integrity and judgment. This will be a generalist role with exposure to all asset classes and businesses at Apollo.
Primary Responsibilities
- Day to Day Management of Austin Initiatives: Serve as a trusted “right-hand” advisor and project manager to Austin's Office Leaders. Directly and proactively support them on all deliverables and engagements including preparation of meeting materials, talking points, and briefing notes. Maintain their respective priority lists and drive execution against key priorities.
- Business Strategy & Execution: Support leaders on key priorities for the business, including day-to-day operations, organizational design and effectiveness, and longer-term strategic and growth initiatives. Engage with stakeholders from across the firm including the function leads, business leads, and the broader business to monitor progress, drive alignment, and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Austin Office Growth & Development: Help drive the continued build-out of the Austin office as a strategic growth hub for Apollo and Athene, partnering across businesses and functions to advance new initiatives and ensure connectivity with the broader firm.
- Business Management: Drive and support key business management processes, including business reviews, forecasting and budgeting processes, capital raise and deployment analysis, hiring, new business initiatives, and overall business performance. Support management and achievement of the budget and 5-year plan. Perform ad hoc analysis on business performance and key metrics for the firm.
- Leadership Cadence: Manage the recurring cadence and material preparation for firm leadership including the Apollo Leadership Team, AAM and Athene Management Committees, and other key meetings including Town Halls, Partner Meetings, and leadership offsites. Anticipate issues, shape agendas, and track key decisions and follow-ups. Help drive the day-to-day machine and support collaboration and open communication across the leadership team.
- People & Culture : Partner with stakeholders throughout the organization to define and drive forward key culture and people initiatives, with a particular focus on building a highly connected and effective team in Austin.
- Community Engagement: Work with Austin leadership team to drive community engagement with Austin as Apollo establishes its presence in the region.
- Special Projects: Execute on ad-hoc requests and projects on behalf of senior management; examples include preparing firm-wide strategy reviews and performing new business and product analysis
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 10 years' work experience serving as a Chief of Staff or COO to Senior Leadership at a similar Financial Services Institution
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills with an ability to communicate complexity in Smart Brevity.
- Proven experience working across organizational teams to build relationships, influence decisions, and drive outcomes
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills with an ability to adapt to changing demands and manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to operate independently in an ambiguous environment, anticipate issues, exercise sound judgment, and drive priorities from concept through execution
- Confident, poised individual with natural humility with a strong executive presence
- Strong financial acumen, commercial judgement and attention to detail
- Proven ability to navigate complex challenges, driving large-scale initiatives forward while maintaining cross-platform relationships and bringing stakeholders along
- Discretion, judgment and the highest degree of integrity to handle and manage the full scope of highly sensitive, confidential, and non-public information dealt with by the Austin leadership team
- Growth mindset and strong strategic vision, with a desire to develop a broader understanding on how to operate and grow a leading alternative asset manager

T he base salary range for this position is listed above. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on personal, team, and Firm performance. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, level, and geographic location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed here.
