Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

To provide Christian based emotional and spiritual care to residents, volunteers, and staff within our sphere of influence.

Accountabilities:

Chaplaincy:

·        Provide spiritual care as requested to individuals who access the Fort McMurray services including creating, documenting and following up on spiritual assessments and spiritual care plans

·        Provide spiritual and religious care and support to people of all faith backgrounds

·        Collaborate with chaplains from other faith backgrounds to provide multi-faith chaplaincy

·        Plan and coordinate spiritual care programs and services including chapel services, worship events, Bible studies, devotions and program modules

·        Pray with and lead people to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits

·        Participate as an active member of the Fort McMurray Ministries Case Management team

·        Participate as an active member of the Fort McMurray Ministries Management team

·        Ensure that approved Christian and/or Spiritual Religious Care material is available to meet the needs of program participants

·        Assist with the development / revising of Policies and Procedures specific to the Spiritual Care program as required

·        Conduct funerals and memorial services as required

·        Respond in chaplaincy role to emergencies and crises as required (may be involved in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) defusing and/or debriefing sessions as needed)

·        Provide accurate statistics and reports as required

·        Maintain accurate data records and file management

·        Be familiar with Center Policies and Procedures and ensure they are followed and put into practice.

·        Other duties as assigned

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal:

·        Management Team

·        Various ad hoc Committees as assigned.

·        Staff and Clients of the Programs

External:

·        Clergy, chaplains and community resources from other faith backgrounds

·        Family members of program participants

·        Community members

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

- This position reports directly to the Corps Officer
- This position has no direct reports

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

- Maintain confidential files and reports of clients.
- Maintain a pool of resources with other community services for easy accessibility by the residents.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·        The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of standing, sitting, walking, assisting clients, intervening in client confrontations.

·        The incumbent will be required to work at multiple sites; access to transportation will be required.

·        The incumbent must have a flexible schedule as weekend, evening and holiday coverage may be required.

- The incumbent’s work environment is typically at work sites within residential settings, and may         require working under the following disagreeable conditions and will need to follow or use universal precautions:

- Dealing with angry and abusive people, verbal abuse

- Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste, and infectious diseases

- Exposure to drugs, alcohol, and solvents
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Sharp objects (i.e., needle sticks, knives, and weapons)
- Other dangerous situations
- Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis

education and experience Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications :

·        Must be a High School graduate.

·        Must be ordained and have Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent.

·        An alternative level of education and experience in Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

·        At least 2 years’ experience in Pastoral Care and /or Chaplaincy preferably in a social services setting as well as experience dealing with mental health issues, substance use, addictions, death, dying, incarceration and family issues.

·        Experience working with vulnerable populations

Skills and Capabilities:

- Ensure a high standard of holistic, trauma-informed and client-centred care
- Proficient in maintaining accurate data records, administrative tasks, statistics and report writing
- Proficient in various software programs (e.g.  Microsoft 365) and email
- Be able to communicate in an empathetic manner with clients, families, staff, community members and agencies
- Must be a confidential support and have strong professional boundaries management
- Must fully support TSA doctrine/theology and ecclesiology

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $64,001.60 to $80,017.60 with a maximum of $96,033.60.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
