GrizzlyTrek is hiring a Commissioning Operator for the power block on our valued client's major capital energy project in Sherwood Park, Alberta. You will help take three gas turbine generators and a steam turbine generator from construction walkdowns through first roll, synchronization and full load. This is a 12 month contract starting October 19, 2026, at 40 hours per week.
A Power Engineer certificate, 4th Class or higher, is required.

This is a local role. Reports To Power Block Commissioning Coordinator Equipment Three gas turbine generators (GTGs), HRSGs, and one steam turbine generator (STG) Ticket Power Engineer certificate, 4th Class or higher (required) The Site This is a new-build power block: three gas turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and a steam turbine generator with its condenser and cooling water systems. The job is to get all of it safely energized, tested and brought to full production capacity. Expect significant hands-on field work alongside vendors, subcontractors and the project engineering team: walkdowns, isolations, troubleshooting, and verifying system performance against design specifications. Your First 3 Months
- Get up to speed on the power block commissioning and startup plans with your Commissioning Coordinator, including the System Commissioning Packages and procedures
- Complete the CSU Operator Training Material and Competency Validation for the power block
- Complete the site Safety Work Permit (SWP) training. It is extensive, but the principles line up with other Alberta industrial sites
What You'll Do
- Support Construction Complete (CC) and Mechanically Complete (MC) walkdowns
- Install energy isolations and issue Safety Work Permits (SWPs) as required
- Oversee chemical cleaning and flushing of the HRSGs and lube oil systems
- Perform cold and hot commissioning, functional testing and trial runs of the GTGs
- Commission the STG condenser and cooling water systems, and support STG steam line blowing, initial roll and heat up, overspeed testing, synchronization and load progression
- Support GTG and STG reliability testing, plus electrical testing of the excitation systems, static frequency converters and generators
- Work with vendors, subcontractors and project engineering under your CSU Coordinator's direction to execute commissioning and startup procedures, and provide daily progress reports
- Redline site operating procedures, mentor less experienced team members, and help train Operations personnel
What You Bring
- Power Engineer certificate, 4th Class or higher
- Strong understanding of GTG and/or STG operation
- Ready for significant hands-on field work: troubleshooting equipment and verifying system performance against design specifications
Nice to Have
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on operator experience with gas turbine generators and/or steam turbine generators
- Commissioning and startup experience on GTGs or STGs (highly preferred)
