Title: Machinist Technician – Tool and Gage Shop

Location:  Independence, MO

Salary: $72,300 -$86,000 depending on experience
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30AM-3:30PM (May require some overtime and weekend work)

Focus: The Machinist Technician in the Tool and Gage Shop reads and understands government and Olin Winchester drawings in the manufacture and repair of high tolerance gages and machine parts used in the manufacture, inspection and acceptance of small caliber ammunition.  for the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of machinery and components. This role requires strong technical skills and the ability to work with various machine shop equipment, as well as the ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform precision work. The ideal candidate will possess strong machining skills and be capable of programming and operating automatic grinding equipment including CNC and Studer, in addition to performing manual grinding, lapping and polishing techniques.  The individual should be knowledgeable in metal properties, metal removal processes and metal hardening as applicable to high tolerance parts.

Machinist Technician Job Functions:

- Must be able to read, understand and interpret government and Olin-Winchester drawings used in the manufacture of high tolerance parts.
- Must be able to apply shop mathematics and knowledgeable in metal properties, metal removal and finishing in the manufacturing of high tolerance parts.
- Set up and operate machine shop equipment and tools.  Machines include, but not limited to include lathes, milling machines, CNC machining centers, screw machines, hydraulic presses, external and internal grinders, honing machines and EDM (electrical discharge machines).
- Produce parts with tolerances ranging from .005" to .0002", with finishes ranging from Ra63 to Ra4 by one or all the following processes: machining, grinding, lapping, and/or polishing.

Machinist Technician Minimum Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of relevant machine shop and/or precision grinding experience.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and trade type tools to perform repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to Communicate, documentation skills, and the ability to work closely with engineering staff.
- Computer skills relevant to engineering work and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work standing up entire work shift, lift up to 35 lbs., and work with energetic materials.

Location-Specific Requirements:

- Must possess a Valid US driver’s license.
- This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
- This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non-US citizens on-site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.  Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
