We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Production Technician – Test Pad to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for performing final operational testing, diagnostics, inspections, and quality verification of custom generator systems before they are released to customers. Position Summary

The Production Technician – Test Pad is responsible for conducting operational testing and quality inspections of diesel and natural gas-powered generator systems prior to shipment. Working in an outdoor test environment, this position performs startup procedures, diagnostics, load testing, troubleshooting, and final quality verification to ensure each generator meets engineering specifications, customer requirements, and Central Power quality standards.

This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Perform pre-test inspections of completed generator systems.

- Start, operate, monitor, and shut down diesel and natural gas-powered generator systems.

- Conduct operational testing to verify system functionality and performance.

- Perform load bank testing and monitor system performance under load conditions.

- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, exhaust, and control system issues.

- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.

- Utilize diagnostic software, gauges, meters, and testing equipment to identify issues and verify system performance.

- Verify proper operation of safety systems, alarms, controls, instrumentation, and auxiliary equipment.

- Document test results, inspections, repairs, and quality verification records accurately.

- Coordinate with production, engineering, quality, and service teams to resolve deficiencies.

- Perform minor repairs, adjustments, and corrective actions as needed.

- Ensure generators meet customer specifications and quality standards prior to shipment.

- Identify and communicate quality, safety, or production concerns.

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe testing area.

- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

- High School Diploma or GED

- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment

- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to safely work in an outdoor industrial environment

Preferred

- Technical training in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Power Generation, or a related field

- Two or more years of experience in generator testing, diesel engines, industrial equipment, manufacturing, maintenance, service, or related fields

- Experience reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

- Familiarity with engine controls, PLCs, or generator control systems

- Diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with diesel engines and power generation equipment

- Experience with load bank testing and electrical testing equipment

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed outdoors in a generator testing environment and requires exposure to varying weather conditions throughout the year.

Requirements include:

- Working outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, and seasonal weather conditions

- Standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods

- Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds

- Working around operating engines, electrical systems, and industrial equipment

- Exposure to noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, and industrial environments

- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed footwear, and respirators when required

- Ability to safely perform testing activities around energized equipment
