Laboratory Technician

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team in Newhouse, near Motherwell.

Join our Microbiology Testing team as a Laboratory Technician, supporting Associate Scientists and Scientists while helping to ensure the laboratories operate smoothly and efficiently each day.

By ensuring the laboratories are fully stocked with the materials and reagents required for assay work and that equipment functions correctly, within calibration and regularly cleaned, you will enable our teams to focus on what matters most: better health for more people.

Based at our Newhouse site near Motherwell offering a salary up to £26,000 per annum, you will become part of a team of six dedicated professionals who look forward to shaping the future together with you.

Grow with us – Your Responsibilities

- Arrange sample transfers and log samples upon receipt at the site

- Prepare stock reagents, media, buffers and reagent aliquots for microbiology testing and cell culture activities

- Conduct stock checks, maintain accurate inventory levels and dispose of expired laboratory materials appropriately

- Carry out routine laboratory and equipment cleaning, maintenance and calibration activities

- Respond to equipment alarms and perform operational tasks such as freezer defrosting and gas cylinder changes, while adhering to health and safety policies, SOPs and GMP requirements

- Once fully trained, undertake laboratory work including routine cell culture and client testing

What will convince us

- A higher level qualification or equivalent is desirable

- No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided; however, experience in a laboratory or another fast-paced environment, such as retail or hospitality would be beneficial

- A motivated approach to learning, with the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workload requirements

- Good written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel

- A collaborative team player with the ability to follow established procedures and quality standards
