STEAMspark is seeking a Facilities & Environment Coordinator to help maintain a clean, orderly, well-stocked, and beautifully presented school environment. This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in their work, notices the details, anticipates needs, and takes initiative without waiting to be asked.

We are looking for a dependable, highly organized, detail-oriented Facilities & Environment Coordinator who will develop a genuine sense of ownership of the school environment. This role goes beyond traditional custodial work. The Coordinator helps ensure that classrooms, common spaces, restrooms, kitchen areas, storage areas, and the overall campus are consistently clean, organized, stocked, safe, and ready for our students, families, staff, and visitors.

Role & Responsibilities

- Maintain the cleanliness and overall appearance of classrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, restrooms, kitchen areas, and other school spaces.

- Conduct regular walkthroughs throughout the day and proactively address cleaning, organization, supply, and presentation needs.

- Empty trash, replace liners, and ensure trash is removed before departing each day.

- Clean and disinfect tables, counters, sinks, door handles, and other high-touch surfaces.

- Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed and respond promptly to spills, messes, odors, and other cleaning needs.

- Clean classroom windows, entry doors, entry glass, and other interior and exterior glass surfaces; remove fingerprints, smudges, and visible marks throughout the day.

- Raise, straighten, and maintain window shades and blinds and help ensure classrooms and common areas are visually ready to receive families and visitors at any time.

- Monitor restrooms throughout the day and keep them clean, fresh, orderly, and fully stocked.

- Manage school laundry throughout the day, including washing, drying, folding, organizing, and returning items to designated locations.

- Maintain adequate clean towels, linens, blankets, cleaning cloths, and other washable items and keep the laundry area clean and organized.

- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for cleaning, restroom, laundry, kitchen, paper, and general facility supplies.

- Conduct routine inventory checks, identify low-stock items, and communicate replenishment needs before supplies run out.

- Receive, unpack, organize, and properly store incoming supplies and replenish classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, cleaning stations, and common areas as needed.

- Maintain clean, labeled, orderly, and accessible supply closets, cabinets, shelving, storage rooms, and shared work areas.

- Return items to their designated locations, break down boxes and packaging, and prevent clutter from accumulating throughout the campus.

- Assist with seasonal organization, periodic deep cleaning, and the movement or resetting of lightweight furniture and materials as needed.

- Provide kitchen and meal-service support as needed, including setup and cleanup, dishes and utensils, sanitizing food-service surfaces, trash removal, restocking, and organization.

- Follow school sanitation, health, and food-safety procedures when supporting kitchen and meal-service activities.

- Help prepare the campus for parent meetings, tours, school events, showcases, and special programs, with particular attention to high-visibility areas.

- Assist with light setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, supplies, and spaces before and after events and restore spaces to their normal condition.

- Regularly inspect the campus for maintenance or safety concerns and immediately report broken, damaged, leaking, unsafe, or malfunctioning items to administration.

- Help ensure entrances, exits, walkways, classrooms, and common areas remain clear, orderly, and ready for use.

- Support special facilities projects and deep-cleaning initiatives as needed.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.

- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, detail, and presentation.

- Ability to work independently, recognize what needs to be done, and follow responsibilities through to completion without constant reminders.

- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adjust priorities throughout the school day.

- Professional and respectful communication when interacting with children, families, staff, and visitors.

- Ability to follow school procedures, safety expectations, checklists, and approved cleaning and sanitation practices.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience in school facilities, custodial services, hospitality, housekeeping, food service, inventory management, or a similarly detail-oriented environment.

- Experience maintaining supplies, storage areas, laundry, or kitchen-service operations.

- Experience working in an environment serving children and families.

Physical Requirements

- Able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

- Able to bend, reach, kneel, push, pull, and perform other physical activities associated with cleaning, organizing, laundry, kitchen support, and facilities work.

- Able to safely lift and move supplies, boxes, laundry, and lightweight furniture or materials associated with the position.

Compensation

- Hourly rate of $14.40 to $17.60 per hour.

The Facilities & Environment Coordinator does not simply complete assigned cleaning tasks. This person takes ownership of the environment - noticing when laundry needs to be completed, supplies are getting low, glass needs attention, trash needs to be removed, a storage area needs organizing, the kitchen needs support, or a space needs to be prepared for an upcoming event.

The right person sees what needs attention, takes initiative, and follows through. The goal is simple: leave every space better than you found it.
