POSITION SPECIFICS ​

The Penn State College of Medicine is seeking an experienced financial professional to serve in a key leadership role as a Financial Specialist , Principal Professional, supporting clinical finance operations, with a significant focus on the Penn State Cancer Institute.

Approximately 50% of this position will provide senior-level financial management and leadership for the Cancer Institute and oncology-related areas. The Cancer Institute is a complex clinical and research enterprise. As Penn State continues to strengthen the Cancer Institute’s infrastructure and advance efforts toward National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation, this position will play an important role in ensuring strong financial stewardship, operational readiness, and accountability.

The successful candidate will provide Funds Management Accounting support for the Cancer Institute and financial oversight for staff supporting oncology-related areas, including the Cancer Institute, Radiation Oncology and the Gittlen Cancer Research Institute. This individual will serve as a strategic financial partner to leadership by providing analysis, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and helping ensure resources are aligned with clinical, research, and strategic priorities.

The remaining 50% of the position will provide leadership and support across the College of Medicine’s clinical department’s finance operations. Responsibilities will include complex financial and data analysis, financial reviews, monitoring key financial activities, and strengthening controls and processes across clinical departments. Areas of focus will include underspent endowments, overspent gift funds, payhold accounts, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and other items requiring timely resolution or corrective action.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced financial professional who enjoys combining financial leadership, data analysis, problem-solving, process improvement, and staff development while supporting one of the College of Medicine’s most important strategic initiatives.

Required skills and experience:

- Strong financial management and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial and operational data and translate it into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, including the capacity to identify financial and operational risks, resolve complex issues, and develop and recommend process improvements
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information and effectively collaborate with senior leadership, faculty, academic and administrative staff, and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive financial information with professionalism and integrity

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree
8+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $81,312.00 - $122,016.00.
