Quality Engineer, Harness, Data Center Manufacturing

Tesla is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer for ensuring the quality of harness parts, processes, and finished wire harness assemblies. This role involves collaborating with design, supply chain, manufacturing, and service teams to develop Tesla's production processes for high-quality harness products that meet customer expectations. The Quality Engineer is expected to be a problem-solver, utilizing quality techniques such as Six Sigma, advanced statistics, Advanced Product Quality Planning, and data visualization. The goal is to develop reliable processes that prevent defects and ensure high-quality products that meet the reliability standards of the energy business, contributing to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

- Develop and implement a comprehensive quality management system for harness manufacturing to ensure products meet specifications and industry standards
- Investigate and resolve quality-related issues and defects on the harness line (cut/strip, crimp, splice, connector assembly, tape/braid, continuity and hipot), and report on quality performance to stakeholders
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of in-process and end-of-line harness quality, including crimp height/width/pull force, electrical test coverage, and workmanship to IPC/WHMA-A-620
- Prepare and present quality performance reports, highlighting key metrics, issues, and progress toward quality objectives
- Oversee documentation of quality control activities, including inspection reports, control plans, PFMEAs, quality instructions, and corrective action plans
- Provide training and support to project, operations, and Quality Technician teams on harness quality standards and best practices
- Lead containment, sort, and clean-point activities; drive RCCA/8D for recurring harness defects (miswire, open/short, crimp defects, connector damage)
- Support new line validations, first article inspections, and process capability studies for harness equipment and test systems

- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance and quality control, with a strong focus on high-volume manufacturing

- Preferred experience includes electro-mechanical, vehicle or aerospace assemblies, wire harness manufacturing, or battery pack or module manufacturing

- Six Sigma or ASQ certification is preferred

- Demonstrated success and specific training in applying design for quality, problem-solving methodologies, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, and SPC

- Strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to industrial electrical and harness manufacturing (IPC/WHMA-A-620, USCAR preferred)

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex information and make data-driven decisions

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective work with cross-functional teams and clear communication of quality principles

- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal

- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment
