Director, Fulfillment Operations

Overview of Position

The Director, Distribution Operations, is responsible for the strategy, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of Medifast's distribution network, including company-operated and third-party logistics (3PL) facilities. This role leads network optimization, operational excellence, and distribution strategy to ensure exceptional customer service, inventory accuracy, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective fulfillment.

Reporting to the EVP, Supply Chain Operations, the Director oversees a multi-site distribution network and is accountable for safety, quality, service, financial performance, and strategic growth initiatives. The role partners closely with cross-functional leaders across Supply Chain, Customer Service, Marketing, Finance, IT, and Field Operations to deliver a seamless customer experience and support the company's long-term business objectives.

As a key member of the Supply Chain leadership team, this individual serves as a strategic advisor on distribution network design, operational capabilities, systems, and process improvements.

Job Responsibilities

- Develop and execute the distribution network strategy, aligning operational capabilities with business growth objectives and customer experience goals.
- Lead all distribution operations across company-owned and third-party facilities, ensuring excellence in safety, quality, service, inventory management, and cost performance.
- Optimize network design, transportation, fulfillment, and inventory flows through data-driven analysis, modeling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage strategic relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, carriers, and service partners to ensure operational scalability and performance.
- Own distribution-related financial performance, including budget management, cost optimization, capital planning, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing organization by attracting, developing, and retaining talent while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure alignment between supply chain operations and broader business priorities, supporting exceptional customer and coach experiences.
- Lead contract negotiations and vendor management activities to maximize service levels, flexibility, and long-term value.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, food safety, trade compliance, and corporate governance requirements.
- Define and monitor key operational and financial performance indicators, providing actionable insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Drive strategic initiatives and transformation efforts, including process redesign, systems enhancements, automation, and network expansion opportunities.
- Partner with Information Technology to develop and implement technology solutions that improve operational efficiency, scalability, visibility, and customer service.
- Provide leadership and governance for distribution-related projects, ensuring successful execution and measurable business outcomes.
- Guide the Facilities and Capital Project teams to ensure site safety, infrastructure reliability, and the successful delivery of supply chain technology and expansion projects."

Scope

- Oversight of a multi-node distribution network consisting of company-operated and third-party fulfillment facilities (1 owned, 2 3PL).
- Direct management of global strategic partners for distribution including, but not limited to, UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, QSure, JB Hunt, Schneider Logistics, Air Freight Plus, Wen Parker Logistics and Red Stag Logistics and additional partners as needed.
- Leadership responsibility for approximately 150 employees across multiple locations through direct and indirect reporting structures.
- Responsible for compliance with food safety regulations, trade requirements, and corporate governance standards, including SOX controls.
- Oversight of approximately $20MM in annual distribution-related operating expenditure having additional responsibilities for $25M-30MM in raw ingredients and finished goods inventory.

Knowledge, Education, Skills and Abilities

- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Supply Chain or Business preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience in distribution, logistics, supply chain operations, and network strategy. Proven success leading large-scale distribution networks, including company-operated and outsourced fulfillment environments.
- Deep expertise in direct-to-consumer fulfillment, transportation, inventory management, and supply chain optimization.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable supply chain networks during periods of business growth and transformation.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing large operating budgets, capital investments, and productivity initiatives.
- Experience leading strategic vendor and partner relationships, including contract negotiation and performance management.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain technologies, including ERP, WMS, TMS, and related systems.
- International supply chain experience preferred, with working knowledge of global trade and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.

The salary range for this position is:

$171,646.88 - $232,228.14
