Work Arrangement:
Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the Oshawa Elevation Centre (OEC) three times per week at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business and by rotation assignment.
The Role:
VSSM Canada is hiring co-op students to support Vehicle Sales, Service & Marketing. Rather than being assigned to one team for the full term, each co-op rotates across multiple VSSM functions — including Retail Operations, Distribution, Data & AI, Field Teams, the Dealer Organization, and Operations Finance — to build a well-rounded, end-to-end understanding of how GM Canada goes to market. The cohort works both independently within host teams and collaboratively as a group on shared, cross-functional projects that improve VSSM-wide efficiency and workflows. Expect frequent interaction with leaders across multiple VSSM functions and with GM Canada's Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
· Rotate across multiple VSSM functions over the 12-month term (e.g., Retail Operations, Distribution, Data & AI, Field Teams, Dealer Organization, and Operations Finance), gaining a full Vehicle Sales & Service Management (VSM) experience
· Support host teams with data-informed insights, ranging from dealer sales and inventory analysis to distribution, field performance, and finance reporting
· Contribute to a simplified, centralized reporting ecosystem shared across VSSM functions
· Participate in a cohort-wide collaborative project focused on cross-functional process efficiency and workflow improvements
· Take an active role in planning and implementing sales, retail, and operational strategies alongside host teams
· Assist with retail incentive program evaluation, analytics, and insight generation
· Conduct competitive analysis and market insights (online and in-person)
· Assist with the development of sales, retail, and marketing materials for a range of internal and dealer-facing stakeholders
· Support employee, dealer, and field communications across the functions the cohort touches
· Coordinate activities across functions including Retail, Brand Marketing, Distribution, Dealer Organization, and Digital Innovation
· Enthusiastically embrace special assignments and new projects as they arise across any VSSM function
Required Qualifications:
· Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Financial Analytics, Data Science, Marketing, Data Analytics, or a related field
· Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week for a 12-month term (consecutive semesters) starting January 2027
· Have a valid Full Class G Ontario driver's license, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province license
Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous related experience in business analysis, sales, marketing, finance, or operations — through work experience or prior co-op/internship terms
· Previous experience in the automotive industry, or a strong curiosity about it
· Comfortable working across multiple teams, leaders, and stakeholders in a rotational, matrixed environment
· Willingness to travel across GM Canada's VSSM functions/locations as rotations and projects require, and openness to relocation across Canada should full-time opportunities be offered
Desired Skills:
Interpersonal & Collaboration
· Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a rotational, cross-functional organization and with varying levels of leadership
· Strong team-orientation and ability to collaborate with peers across the co-op cohort on shared projects
Communication & Presentation
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for broad audiences
· Strong presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for stakeholders ranging from field and dealer teams to GM Canada's Leadership Team
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
· High ability to deal with ambiguity; takes initiative and is self-directed, particularly when moving between functions on a rotational schedule
· Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills, applied across varied functional contexts (retail, distribution, dealer, finance, field)
· Consistently demonstrates innovative, customer-centric thinking
· Evidence of strong character, with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust
· Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and rotations at any given time
Data & Analytics
· Strong data analysis and data-storytelling skills, able to generate insights from sales, dealer, distribution, and finance data sets
· Possesses strong analytical skills to support decision-making across multiple VSSM functions
Technical & AI Skills
· Automate Reporting Workflows: Leverage tools such as Power Automate to streamline data collection and distribution of insights across VSSM functions
· Data Orchestration: Assist in transitioning legacy spreadsheets to a Databricks-backed environment to enable more scalable, real-time analysis and forecasting
· AI Proficiency: Familiarity with enterprise AI search tools (e.g., Glean) and low-code automation platforms (e.g., Power Automate) to drive operational efficiency
· Modern Data Stack: Exposure to big data environments like Databricks for handling large-scale automotive datasets beyond standard Excel limitations
· Fundamental digital literacy, including MS Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, with an emphasis on Excel and Power BI
