BorgWarner’s Drivetrain Systems business unit is currently looking for dynamic, results driven individual to join as Validation Engineer Intern at our Auburn Hills, MI Propulsion Technical Center.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Validation Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting the validation of products and designs by conducting or assisting in conducting tests on Transfer Case Units and their components.  In the process of testing for Validation, the VE Intern supports numerous aspects of resolving design concerns.  This person has support responsibility to ensure the product meets performance requirements. This person faithfully executes assignments on system, unit, and component problems. The job includes but is not limited to supporting and tracking test plans for 4WD, AWD, and Cross-Axle assemblies and components, designing test fixtures, supporting Validation colleagues and Product Engineers. These tasks include extensive evaluations of tested items with associated documentation.  Further this will include evaluation of components against specific metrics.  This person will develop the strong technical knowledge required to do engineering calculations and solve design problems. He/she demonstrates characteristics that foster team progress and takes the initiative to assume challenging assignments.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Supports finding and verifying design solutions to product and test equipment problems
- Executes and further develops new test equipment, procedures, and methods to test new products or conditions under the mentorship of full time VEs.
- Assists the coordination of the development of new customer products
- Designs test fixtures in conjunction with CAD department
- Performs vehicle evaluations (subjective and objective)
- Assembles and disassembles Transfer Cases and other AWD assemblies
- Performs guided inspections on all components for wear and durability
- Works with Technician to conduct testing on transfer case components
- In some cases, write test reports relating to the outcome of tests performed
- Special Assignments - Responsible for support of special assignments as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

- B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree pursuit
- Mechanical Aptitude/Technical background
- Self-directed/self-motivated
- Good follow thru skills with the ability to coordinate projects from start to completion
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
